Job Description

SSP America is a leading operator of restaurants and food service locations at airports and travel hubs, known for delivering high-quality dining experiences to travelers. At the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, SSP America manages several restaurant establishments that prioritize exceptional in-house dining rather than fast-food delivery or takeout options. This unique focus allows the company to foster a working environment that rejects the fast-paced, hectic conditions found in delivery-focused services like Uber Eats, Grub Hub, or DoorDash, instead emphasizing quality food, customer satisfaction, and a team-oriented workplace. The company's commitment to excellent hospitality is supported by a collaborative culture where employees work closely together to create memorable guest experiences without sacrificing their work-life balance. Employees benefit from schedules that avoid early mornings and late-night shifts, promoting a balanced lifestyle while working in a vibrant hospitality setting.

As a Restaurant Shift Supervisor at SSP America’s airport restaurants, you will play a pivotal role in leading the restaurant team on shift. This full-time position offers a competitive wage of $22.00 per hour, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits plan and a 401K match, providing both financial security and long-term savings opportunities. This role is designed for individuals passionate about the food and beverage industry who enjoy working in a hands-on supervisory capacity to ensure operational excellence.

In this leadership position, the Shift Supervisor supports the Director of Operations in maintaining smooth, efficient restaurant operations and ensuring that all team members have the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively throughout their shift. The supervisor is responsible for upholding brand operational standards and assuring compliance with cleaning and checklist protocols to maintain a high level of restaurant cleanliness and food quality. Moreover, the Shift Supervisor acts as a mentor and coach, guiding new team members through the orientation process, helping them understand and meet the brand’s standards, and fostering a positive working atmosphere.

Communication is key in this role, with responsibilities including clearly conveying job duties, priorities, and expectations to team members, as well as providing support and motivation to help achieve business goals. The Shift Supervisor also oversees performance by monitoring team members, documenting both positive achievements and areas needing improvement, and assisting in skill development to enhance overall performance and productivity. Cash handling duties fall under the supervisor’s purview as well, requiring accuracy and attention to detail to protect the restaurant's assets.

The ideal candidate for this position is at least 18 years old, has a high school diploma or equivalent, and has at least one year of experience in the food and beverage sector, preferably with exposure to either full-service or quick-service restaurant environments. Excellent communication skills and a history of effectively managing disputes or uncomfortable situations with customers, peers, and direct reports are essential. Joining SSP America means becoming part of an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion, and providing reasonable accommodations during the hiring process. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to advance their supervisory skills in a supportive and dynamic hospitality environment where employee well-being is a priority.
