Job Description

Shake Shack is a leading hospitality brand renowned for its commitment to quality food and exceptional customer experiences. Established by Danny Meyer, Founder and CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group, the company began as a humble hot dog cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park. With a vision to give back to the community, the initial proceeds from the cart were donated to park beautification efforts, helping the brand build a foundation of community engagement and hospitality excellence from the very beginning. Over time, Shake Shack evolved from a temporary stand into a global phenomenon, combining roots in fine dining with a contemporary fast-casual approach. Today, Shake Shack operates as one of the fastest-growing hospitality brands in the world, noted for its welcoming environment, high-quality menu offerings, and dedication to putting people first.

The company culture at Shake Shack emphasizes inclusivity, personal and professional growth, and a commitment to doing the right thing. Employees—affectionately known as the #ShackFam—benefit from continuous mentorship, hands-on training, and a supportive work environment where teamwork is highly valued. This dedication to people translates directly into the guest experience, setting the standard for hospitality in the quick-service restaurant industry.

The role of Shift Lead at Shake Shack is a crucial leadership position that supports operational excellence and team performance during shifts. This position requires managing the flow of service, overseeing team members, and ensuring the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, quality, and speed are maintained at all times. Beyond managing daily operations, the Shift Lead contributes to building and leading a high-performing team of hourly Team Members, providing guidance and fostering a positive work environment.

Shift Leads may also assist with essential operational tasks such as purchasing, receiving inventory, and supporting employee relations including participating in applicant interviews. The role demands strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and a solid understanding of food safety protocols. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a starting hourly rate ranging from $21.00 to $25.00, reflecting the value Shake Shack places on experienced and motivated leaders. Potential candidates must hold food safety certification in accordance with local jurisdiction regulations and have at least one year of restaurant leadership experience.

Working as a Shift Lead at Shake Shack is not only a job but a chance to be part of a company that prioritizes ethical business practices and community impact. The company provides extensive benefits, including weekly pay, performance bonuses, medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as retirement plans with company match. Paid time off, paid parental leave, employee assistance programs, commuter benefits, exclusive discounts, and career development opportunities are additional perks that contribute to a well-rounded and fulfilling employment experience. Joining Shake Shack means being part of something good—where your efforts contribute to quality hospitality and a better community.
