Job Description

Whataburger is a beloved fast-food restaurant chain that has been serving high-quality, made-to-order burgers and other delicious menu items since 1950. Known for its commitment to quality, excellent customer service, and community involvement, Whataburger has grown into a well-recognized and trusted brand across many regions. With a focus on creating a welcoming environment for both customers and team members, the company emphasizes leadership, growth, and teamwork as key pillars of its operational philosophy. Whataburger prides itself on offering career development opportunities and fostering a work culture where employees can thrive and advance their skills, especially within its restaurant operations.

The role of a Shift Leader at Whataburger is a dynamic and rewarding position that plays a critical role in the overall success of the restaurant. This is a leadership position where you will be the driving force behind operational excellence during your shift, ensuring smooth service, quality, and cleanliness. As a Shift Leader, you will coach and motivate team members, known as Family Members, helping them develop their skills and confidence in the fast-paced restaurant environment. You will collaborate closely with the Restaurant Manager team to build strong leadership capabilities, manage shift operations effectively, and support business goals related to food cost, labor cost, sales performance, and inventory control.

In addition to leading daily restaurant operations, the Shift Leader is responsible for maintaining food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards, ensuring compliance with all regulations. This role requires a blend of strong customer service, communication, and multitasking skills, as well as the ability to foster teamwork and a positive work atmosphere. Whataburger also supports its Shift Leaders by providing continuous opportunities for career growth, including a clear pathway to advancement that can lead to six-figure incomes as Operating Partners.

Whataburger offers flexible schedules with available shifts during the day, night/evening, and overnight hours to accommodate diverse lifestyles and preferences. The company provides competitive weekly pay, paid time off, 401(k) matching, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, and disability coverage. Employees also benefit from scholarships, education support including free English language learning and college-level courses, discounted meals, wireless and computer discounts, gym membership perks, and employee recognition programs. As a part of the Whataburger family, you will engage in a culture that celebrates integrity, collaboration, and bold leadership while delivering delicious food and memorable customer experiences.

Working as a Shift Leader offers the chance to make a meaningful impact every day, develop essential leadership skills, and be part of a supportive team dedicated to Winning as One. Whether you are coaching a new hire or managing a busy shift, you are empowered to move forward boldly, transforming challenges into opportunities and shaping the future of your restaurant and career. The role is based primarily in your home restaurant, but you may also provide support at nearby locations or within the local market. Participation in business meetings, training programs, and leadership sessions helps you stay connected and continually grow within the Whataburger community.
