Job Description
Whataburger is a renowned fast-food restaurant chain that has been serving up delicious, made-to-order burgers since 1950. With a strong presence primarily in the southern United States, Whataburger prides itself on providing exceptional hospitality through friendly service and quality food. Whataburger isn’t just any burger chain; it’s a community where bold leadership and teamwork thrive, creating an environment that encourages growth, development, and opportunity for its employees. Known for its distinctive orange-and-white striped buildings and customizable menu, Whataburger aims to build a culture centered on integrity, collaboration, and fun. The company invests heavily in its workforce, providing a clear career path, extensive education benefits, and a supportive workplace environment.
The Shift Leader role at Whataburger is a dynamic leadership position responsible for driving operational excellence and maintaining smooth restaurant operations during each shift. As a Shift Leader, you’ll be the spark that keeps the restaurant firing on all cylinders by managing quality, service, and cleanliness standards. You will coach, train, and motivate Whataburger’s Family Members, helping new hires get up to speed quickly and empowering seasoned staff to enhance their skills and confidence. The role requires partnering closely with the Restaurant Manager team to build shift management capabilities and strengthen the operational foundation of the restaurant.
Shift Leaders at Whataburger play a critical role in supporting business goals related to food and labor costs, sales performance, and inventory management. You will uphold food safety, workplace safety, sanitation, and compliance requirements to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for both team members and customers. Building a positive work culture through teamwork, communication, accountability, and mutual respect is also a key component of this position. You will be responsible for leading and transitioning shift operations seamlessly, especially during busy periods, to maintain peak performance.
Emphasizing career growth, Whataburger offers opportunities for skill development and advancement, with Operating Partners earning six-figure salaries. Benefits include competitive weekly pay, flexible schedules covering days, nights, evenings, and overnight shifts, and paid time off. Additional perks include 401(k) matching, comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and disability benefits, education support such as free English-language learning and tuition discounts, meal discounts, and various wireless and fitness discounts. The Whataburger Family Foundation also provides scholarships and hardship grants, underscoring the company’s commitment to its employees and their families.
Working as a Shift Leader means more than just managing a restaurant; it means becoming part of a larger family committed to success and mutual support. This position requires open availability, physical stamina, strong leadership and communication skills, and a food safety certification. Whataburger is an equal opportunity employer and participates in the federal E-Verify Program to ensure lawful employment practices. This role is based at the home restaurant, with occasional support needed at nearby locations. You will also have opportunities to participate in business meetings, training sessions, and leadership development events, keeping you connected to the broader Whataburger organization and your career path cooked to perfection.
