Job Description

Whataburger is a beloved fast-food restaurant chain that has been serving up quality burgers and exceptional customer service since 1950. Known for its commitment to operational excellence, vibrant work culture, and deep community involvement, Whataburger offers more than just a meal – it offers a place to grow, learn, and shine. As a company, Whataburger prides itself on fostering leadership skills and providing opportunities for team members to develop their careers in a supportive and inclusive environment. With locations primarily in the southern United States, Whataburger’s reputation for quality food and outstanding service continues to grow, making it a top choice for both customers and employees alike.

The role of a Shift Leader at Whataburger is crucial to maintaining the smooth and successful operation of the restaurant. As a Shift Leader, you are the spark that keeps every part of the restaurant firing on all cylinders. This role involves driving operational excellence to ensure that every shift runs seamlessly, much like melted cheese binding all elements together. You will serve with heart by coaching and developing Family Members—Whataburger’s term for their team members—helping new hires quickly learn the ropes and building seasoned employees' confidence and skills.

In this position, you will embody the spirit of teamwork by collaborating closely with your Restaurant Manager and fellow leaders to sharpen management capabilities and strengthen the operational foundation of the restaurant. The work environment encourages ‘Winning as One’, a philosophy promoting collaboration and team spirit during busy times. Shift Leaders will also face challenges with a bold attitude, flipping obstacles into opportunities for growth, both personally and for the team.

The position offers competitive weekly pay with flexible scheduling options including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts. It also comes with attractive benefits such as paid time off, a 401(k) match, and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. Whataburger supports career development with a clear path to significant earnings growth, including opportunities to become Operating Partners who can earn six-figure incomes. Additionally, employees and their dependents may benefit from scholarship programs, hardship grants, and free or reduced-cost education programs including college-level courses and English-language learning.

As a Shift Leader, you will be responsible for maintaining quality, service, and cleanliness standards throughout your shift. You will coach and motivate team members, support goals related to food and labor cost, sales performance, and inventory management. You will uphold stringent food safety, workplace safety, and sanitation guidelines while fostering a positive work culture based on accountability and communication. Shift Leaders prepare, lead, and transition shift operations, ensuring the restaurant functions like a well-oiled fryer day in and day out.

At Whataburger, leadership is more than a title—it's about making a tangible difference, serving with heart, and bringing your best flavor to the team. If you’re ready to take a bold step forward in your career and enjoy the rewards of working with a dedicated team where every shift presents new opportunities, Whataburger provides the perfect platform to learn, grow, and succeed.
