The role of Shift Leader at Whataburger is a critical leadership position focused on managing the operational success of the restaurant during shifts. The Shift Leader acts as the operational spark, ensuring that every shift runs smoothly, efficiently, and meets standards for quality, cleanliness, and food safety. This position is not only about overseeing daily tasks but also about coaching and mentoring team members, called Family Members, to build their skills, foster a cooperative work environment, and drive the restaurant’s success. Shift Leaders work hand-in-hand with the Restaurant Manager team, sharpening leadership capabilities and reinforcing foundational operational practices.

The Shift Leader’s responsibilities encompass leading and transitioning shift operations, maintaining high standards for food quality, service, cleanliness, and safety, supporting financial goals related to food cost and labor cost, fostering teamwork and accountability, providing coaching and training for Family Members, and complying with all regulatory and operational policies. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent experience, demonstrate flexibility with work hours, and have physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift items as needed. Experience in coaching or leading teams, strong multitasking and communication skills, and ServSafe Food Certification (or the ability to obtain it) are required.
