Job Description
Whataburger is a beloved fast-food restaurant chain established in 1950, known for its commitment to quality, customer service, and a family-oriented work environment. With a rich history rooted in bold leadership and a culture of collaboration, Whataburger has become a leading brand in the quick-service industry. The company is dedicated to investing in its employees and fostering a positive workplace where team members are encouraged to grow both professionally and personally. Whataburger’s mission centers on delivering exceptional service with heart and integrity, creating an environment where every employee is empowered to succeed and contribute to the brand’s ongoing success.
The Shift Leader role at Whataburger is a dynamic and influential position designed to keep the restaurant operating smoothly and efficiently during shifts. As a Shift Leader, you will play a critical role in driving operational excellence by managing quality, service, and cleanliness standards. Your leadership will not only ensure that the restaurant meets its performance goals but will also help foster a positive team culture. This position involves coaching and training team members—referred to as Family Members—enabling their growth and building their confidence through continuous support and motivation. You will be deeply involved in operational processes including food cost, labor cost, sales performance, and inventory management, maintaining compliance with food safety and workplace safety regulations.
Whataburger offers competitive weekly pay along with flexible scheduling options, including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts to suit various lifestyles. The company provides comprehensive benefits such as paid time off, medical, dental, and vision coverage matched with a 401(k) plan that offers dollar-for-dollar contributions up to 4%. Employees can benefit from short-term and long-term disability insurance and various education programs including free English-language learning, no-cost college-level courses, and reduced tuition degree pathways. Additional perks include discounted meals, wireless service and gym memberships discounts, awards and recognition programs, and retirement celebration initiatives.
This role is ideal for individuals who are at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have experience in coaching or leading teams. Strong customer service, communication, and multitasking skills are essential. Physical stamina is necessary, as the position requires standing for up to 10 hours and lifting up to 55 pounds. ServSafe Food Certification or the ability to obtain and pass the exam during training is also required. Shift Leaders will work primarily in their home restaurant but may provide assistance to neighboring locations and participate in broader company leadership initiatives.
Working at Whataburger means joining a team committed to serving with heart, Win as One, and Move Forward Boldly. This is a place where leadership skills are nurtured and career growth is supported with a clear path to higher earnings, including the potential to become an Operating Partner earning a six-figure income. By joining Whataburger as a Shift Leader, you take an important step towards professional growth within a company that values integrity, teamwork, and innovation.
