The role of Shift Leader at Whataburger is pivotal in maintaining the restaurant’s high standards of operations, customer service, and employee development. As a Shift Leader, you will be the driving force behind the smooth and efficient functioning of each shift. You will lead by example, motivating and coaching Family Members to enhance their skills, build confidence, and contribute positively to the team. This position requires a hands-on leader who can manage the demands of a busy restaurant environment, particularly during peak hours. Your responsibilities will include overseeing food quality, service, cleanliness, and safety standards while supporting the goals related to food cost, labor cost, and sales performance.
Working closely with the Restaurant Manager team, the Shift Leader will develop leadership capabilities, sharpen operational skills, and foster a positive and accountable work culture. This role is based primarily at your home restaurant, with occasional support at neighboring locations or within the Market as needed. Job Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age
- possess a high school diploma or GED preferred or equivalent experience
- be able to meet business needs and have open availability including overnights, weekends, and holidays
- maintain dependable attendance
- ability to stand for up to 10 hours and lift up to 55 lbs
- experience coaching or leading teams
- strong customer service, communication, and multitasking skills
- possess ServSafe Food Certification or ability to obtain during training

Job Duties
- Lead shift management to maintain quality, service, and cleanliness standards
- coach, train, and motivate Family Members helping new hires ketchup quickly and seasoned pros turn up the heat
- support goals related to food cost, labor cost, sales performance, and basic inventory processes
- uphold food safety, workplace safety, sanitation, and compliance requirements
- foster teamwork, communication, accountability, and a positive work culture
- prepare, lead, and transition shift operations to keep the restaurant running efficiently
