Job Description

Whataburger is an iconic American fast-food restaurant chain established in 1950, known for its commitment to quality food, exceptional customer service, and a strong sense of community. Headquartered in Texas, Whataburger has grown into a beloved regional favorite with a widespread presence throughout the southern United States. This company prides itself on providing a family-friendly environment that fosters teamwork, personal growth, and leadership development. With a rich history and an enduring loyalty from customers, Whataburger continues to innovate while maintaining the quality and values that have made it successful for decades.

As a Restaurant Manager at Whataburger, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing a high-volume restaurant with annual sales exceeding $4 million and managing a team of more than fifty employees, known as Family Members. This leadership position demands a hands-on approach, with responsibilities that span across areas such as customer experience, operational quality, and people management. You will be instrumental in creating a vibrant work environment where excellent food, friendly service, and effective teamwork come together consistently. The role is designed to develop well-rounded leadership skills by rotating through different Areas of Responsibility (AORs), including customer service, quality assurance, and staff development. This exposure prepares you for future opportunities as an Operating Partner within the company.

Your day-to-day impact involves driving operational excellence by meeting and surpassing standards of quality, service, and cleanliness. You will champion Whataburger's hospitality values by ensuring guests enjoy a welcoming and authentic experience every time they visit. Additionally, you will take charge of coaching and developing your team members, helping them grow both personally and professionally. You will be accountable for achieving key financial and operational goals, including sales targets, labor management, food cost control, and overall profitability. Maintaining food safety, workplace safety, and brand standards is critical to your success in this role.

Your leadership style will reflect Whataburger’s core values, fostering an inclusive and positive workplace culture where every employee feels valued and motivated. As a Restaurant Manager, you will guide successful shift transitions and maintain smooth operations throughout all day parts. You will lead key initiatives such as talent development, training, hiring, and retention by partnering closely with your restaurant leadership team. Moreover, supporting ongoing business planning, performance reviews, and continuous improvement efforts will be part of your strategic responsibilities.

Whataburger offers a comprehensive compensation package for this role, including competitive weekly pay and a bonus program with 2.5x upside potential. Paid time off, paid holidays (including Christmas), and paid parental leave are incorporated, ensuring a healthy work-life balance. Employees benefit from a 401(k) match up to 4%, competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits, as well as short-term and long-term disability coverage. Whataburger is committed to career development, providing clear pathways to advance within the company with opportunities for six-figure earnings as an Operating Partner. The Whataburger Family Foundation supports employees and their dependents with scholarships and hardship grants. Additional benefits include free access to English-language learning, no-cost college-level courses, discounted meals, wireless service and technology discounts, fitness memberships, awards and recognition, and retirement celebration programs.

This role is primarily based at your home restaurant located at 1625 TX Hwy 351 Abilene TX 79601-4745, where you will lead your team daily. Occasionally, you may support other nearby locations or take part in market-wide initiatives and leadership training programs. Whataburger values equal opportunity and is committed to a diverse workforce, providing employment without discrimination based on protected characteristics and participating in the federal E-Verify Program.
