The role of Assistant Coach (Assistant General Manager) at Sweetgreen is pivotal in supporting the store's operations as a leader, strategist, and mentor. This position involves inspiring and guiding team members while driving operational excellence and exceptional guest experiences. The Assistant Coach partners closely with the Head Coach (store manager) to set goals, track performance, and navigate challenges using data-driven insights from tools like the Ops Dashboard. This hands-on leadership role demands a proactive approach to team deployment during peak hours, coaching and mentoring future leaders, and maintaining high standards in food safety, cleanliness, and hospitality. Responsibilities extend to managing controllable costs, executing schedules efficiently, and ensuring compliance with safety audits and quality standards. The Assistant Coach also plays an essential part in delivering a seamless customer journey both in-store and digitally by upholding Sweetgreen's brand standards. Job Requirements

  • Meet all physical requirements for all roles within the career path, including Assistant Coach, Shift Leader, Kitchen Lead, and Team Member
  • Minimum 2 years in restaurant management or supervisory role
  • Experience managing and developing teams of 6 or more members per shift
  • Valid Food Handler or ServSafe certification
  • Availability to work at least 30 hours per week
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in fast casual restaurant chains
  • Hands-on experience with local, organic, and sustainable products
  • Familiarity with operational and scheduling tech tools and systems
  • Proven leadership experience with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to mentor and foster positive team culture
  • Highly organized and reliable multitasker with experience in scheduling, coaching, and performance oversight

Job Duties

  • Partnering with the Head Coach on hiring, onboarding, and training while fostering a culture of trust and recognition
  • Anticipating operational needs and adjusting team deployment to support seamless store operations
  • Providing hands-on coaching and stepping in during peak times or staffing gaps to maintain performance
  • Upholding high standards for food safety, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance through inspections and compliance checks
  • Ensuring a welcoming and brand-aligned guest experience by acting on customer feedback and making timely business decisions
  • Managing controllable costs and executing schedules to support operational excellence and sales growth
  • Supporting daily operations by troubleshooting systems, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring effective use of technology
  • Performing all essential duties of the Shift Leader, including roles from Kitchen Lead and Team Member positions as part of the career path
