This job opportunity is with a restaurant operated by an independent franchisee of Del Taco, a well-known fast-food brand recognized for its quality Mexican-inspired menu. Unlike corporate-owned locations, this franchise is independently managed, meaning employment decisions such as hiring, firing, wages, and scheduling are handled directly by the franchisee. This structure allows for a more localized approach to restaurant management, focusing on operational excellence and community engagement under the established Del Taco brand standards.

The role of General Manager is a critical leadership position reporting directly to the Area Director. This individual will be responsible for protecting and delivering the Del Taco brand at the restaurant level, ensuring that quality standards are consistently met and exceeded. The General Manager will oversee the entire functioning of the store including staffing, training, customer service, marketing, financial performance, and compliance with safety and health regulations.

This position requires a dynamic leader who can fully staff the store with quality personnel and is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and retaining all restaurant employees. Ensuring that all team members are properly trained and certified according to Del Taco's standards is paramount to maintaining the brand's integrity. The General Manager will build a culture centered on service, teamwork, and fun, while also evaluating employee performance and managing disciplinary actions when necessary.

Executing the Del Taco Way means the General Manager will consistently maintain the restaurant’s operational standards, including facility upkeep, equipment maintenance, product quality, cleanliness, uniform compliance, and promotional displays. The manager will also drive sales growth by setting clear revenue goals, optimizing staffing relative to business needs, and implementing local marketing initiatives. Monitoring competitive activity and engaging with local community events will be important for continually increasing customer counts and loyalty.

Financial stewardship is a key component of the role. The General Manager will be expected to manage labor costs in compliance with regulations, maintain accurate inventory controls to minimize waste and theft, perform cash audits, and achieve profitability targets through effective vendor management and cost control. The role may require flexibility to address emergencies, workload changes, or other operational needs as they arise.

This position demands excellent communication, organization, analytical problem-solving, and leadership skills. A minimum of three to five years of experience in the quick-service or full-service restaurant industry is required, along with ServSafe certification and a high school diploma or equivalent. Fluency in English is mandatory, with Spanish considered an advantage.

Physically, the General Manager will work both in office and restaurant environments, often standing, sitting, and engaging in activities that require attention to detail and some physical effort. The candidate must be willing and able to travel within the assigned area, sometimes requiring overnight stays, supported by a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

Job Duties

  • Fully staff the store with quality people
  • Recruiting, hiring, and retaining all restaurant employees
  • Ensuring the entire team is certified according to the current training process at all times
  • Creating a service oriented culture
  • Promoting an environment of fun and teamwork
  • Evaluating performance and recommending salary increases
  • Recommending, approving, and administering disciplinary action, suspension, and/or termination
  • Developing and growing team members and future managers
  • Executing Del Taco standards and using processes and systems 100 percent of the time
  • Maintaining facility and customer areas
  • Maintaining all equipment to operational and safety standards
  • Delivering only quality products to Del Taco standards every time
  • Adhering to cleaning schedules and standards

  • Ensuring a consistent service experience
  • Ensuring POP and signage is present and in the approved location
  • Identifying and communicating sales goals (daily, weekly, year over year)
  • Ensuring the right people are in the right places according to projected and actual sales
  • Increasing customer count and check average, and maximizing capacity and customer value
  • Identifying and executing Local Store Marketing opportunities to attract new customers
  • Staying aware of local events
  • understanding the store’s current trade area and competition
  • Executing speed (speed with a smile) and service standards
  • Flawlessly executing marketing promotions and campaigns
  • Maintaining staffing levels to actual sales
  • Complying with labor laws
  • Accurately ordering and managing inventory to reduce waste and prevent theft
  • Ensuring cash handling procedures and standards are in place and followed
  • Performing cash audits and addressing identified issues
  • Executing safety and health standards
  • Minimizing R&M / Supplies and Services costs by managing service vendors efficiently
  • Achieving and communicating controllable cost targets
  • Performing other responsibilities as assigned which may change as circumstances dictate
