Job Description

A&W is a well-established fast food restaurant chain recognized across Canada for its commitment to quality, sustainability, and community involvement. With a legacy of serving delicious food crafted from simple, great-tasting ingredients farmed with care, A&W is more than just a place to eat — it's a brand deeply invested in doing the right thing for its customers, employees, and the environment. A&W has made nation-wide strides like eliminating plastic straws, offering root beer made with natural cane sugar and all-natural flavors, and being the first national restaurant chain in Canada to offer the plant-based Beyond Meat Burger. The company fosters a working environment based on respect, active listening, and recognition of efforts and results, which together create a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Joining A&W means becoming part of a passionate and innovative team that embraces change and drives forward with clear climate goals and initiatives to make a meaningful impact in local communities.

The role available is Restaurant Manager/Assistant Manager at A&W, which offers a unique opportunity for a fun and experienced leader to excel their career while leading a diverse team from their local community. The position demands a strong leadership presence and a dedication to upholding A&W's high standards of customer service, food safety, and operational excellence. As a member of the mature and supportive leadership team, the successful candidate will be instrumental in managing staff, maintaining restaurant targets, and controlling labor and food costs to meet business goals. This role is designed for someone who is passionate about the A&W brand, loves leading teams, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

In this leadership capacity, employees will be spending considerable time on the floor to support team members, coach them to deliver excellent customer service reflective of the A&W brand, and ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Responsibilities also include hiring, retaining, and occasionally terminating employees, as well as assisting with inventory management alongside other day-to-day operational duties. The position requires not only business acumen but also strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with diverse personalities within the workplace.

The working conditions for this role are typical of a busy fast food restaurant environment. Candidates must be comfortable working with hot products and equipment, cleaning materials, chemicals, and sharp objects while maintaining safety and mental alertness at all times. The atmosphere is often noisy and fast-moving, pushing team members to work cohesively and efficiently under potentially stressful conditions. Physical stamina is required, with prolonged periods of standing and the occasional need to lift heavy boxes, ensuring the restaurant runs smoothly and customers receive quality dining experiences.

A&W values its employees and strives to provide a supportive and rewarding work experience. Benefits such as flexible schedules are offered to accommodate the personal lives of team members, reinforcing the company's understanding of work-life balance. The company also promotes skill development, helping employees gain valuable communication, customer service, teamwork, and pressure management skills that serve as foundational capabilities for future career growth. Competitive wages are provided, and the company culture embodies a small business feel despite being a large enterprise, maintaining an atmosphere of excitement and continuous innovation. The restaurant's commitment to climate goals is central to the brand's identity, reflecting a shared mission to positively influence food, people, community, and the environment. Joining A&W means becoming part of a forward-thinking team dedicated to making meaningful changes in the fast food industry while enjoying a fun and engaging work environment.
