The Assistant Coach role at Sweetgreen, also known as Assistant General Manager, is a vital leadership position that supports store operations and drives the team towards excellence. As an Assistant Coach, you will serve as a hands-on leader, strategist, and mentor to ensure superior operational performance and a memorable customer experience that aligns with Sweetgreen's mission of promoting healthier lifestyles through real food. This leadership position involves close partnership with the Head Coach (General Manager) to set goals, monitor and analyze performance using data-driven insights, and problem-solve in real time to meet both short-term operational needs and longer-term business strategies.

In this role, you will inspire and cultivate a positive team culture, supporting hiring, onboarding, and training processes while actively coaching team members toward professional growth and leadership development. Your responsibilities extend to managing day-to-day operations including food safety standards, cleanliness, supply quality, and equipment maintenance to uphold Sweetgreen's high standards. You will ensure guest satisfaction by creating a clean, welcoming environment and ensuring fast, accurate service across in-store and digital channels. Financial management, including controlling costs, managing scheduling, and leveraging operational data to enhance sales and efficiency, will also be central to your responsibilities.

The Assistant Coach role requires multitasking and adaptability as you may step in during peak times or staffing gaps, troubleshooting systems or operational challenges to ensure seamless execution. This position offers a competitive salary range of $60,000 to $68,000 USD annually, plus a 15% bonus potential, making it not only a fulfilling leadership opportunity but also a rewarding career path. Job Requirements

  • Meet all physical requirements for all roles within the career path including Assistant Coach, Shift Leader, Kitchen Lead, and Team Member
  • 2+ years in a restaurant management or supervisory role
  • Experience managing and developing 6+ team members per shift
  • Food Handler or ServSafe certification
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 30 hours per week
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in fast casual restaurant chains

  • Familiarity with tech tools and systems used in operations and scheduling

Job Duties

  • Partner with Head Coach on hiring, onboarding, and training while fostering a culture of trust and recognition
  • Anticipate operational needs and adjust deployment to support smooth operations
  • Provide hands-on coaching and step in during peak times or staffing gaps
  • Uphold high standards for food safety, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance
  • Inspect food quality and check temperatures to ensure compliance
  • Resolve facility, supply, and quality issues promptly
  • Ensure team member safety and strong audit performance
  • Ensure a clean, hospitable, and brand-aligned guest journey
  • Act on guest experience metrics and make timely business decisions
  • Manage controllable costs and execute schedules
  • Drive sales and implement strategies using insights from the Ops Dashboard
  • Support effective team deployment and troubleshooting
  • Perform all essential functions of Shift Leader role including Kitchen Lead and Team Member duties
  • Mentor team members to become future leaders
