Job Description
Solitude Mountain Resort is a renowned destination nestled within the stunning Wasatch Mountains, offering exceptional experiences to outdoor enthusiasts and visitors throughout the seasons. As part of Alterra Mountain Company, Solitude Mountain Resort is dedicated to providing top-notch recreational and hospitality services while fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment. The resort emphasizes quality service, a strong sense of community among team members, and opportunities to engage with the natural beauty and vibrant culture of the mountain region. This unique blend of natural beauty and professionalism makes Solitude an appealing workplace for passionate individuals committed to excellence in hospitality and culinary arts.
At the Honeycomb Grill, part of the Food and Beverage division at Solitude Mountain Resort, the Cook II / Line Cook plays a crucial role ensuring that guests enjoy delicious meals prepared in accordance with established menus. This full-time, seasonal, hourly position reports directly to the Sous Chef and Chef and is vital in maintaining the high culinary standards that Solitude Mountain Resort is known for. The Cook II supports the kitchen team with the preparation and presentation of daily menus, specializing particularly in high-quality specials such as soups, stews, and chilies. In addition to food preparation, this role also involves assisting servers during peak hours by restocking and managing stations where guest lines develop, enhancing the overall dining experience.
The ideal candidate for the Cook II position will bring at least five years of kitchen experience, demonstrating strong communication skills and a cooperative attitude when interacting with kitchen staff, supervisors, and guests. This role requires the ability to work under pressure, maintain professionalism in stressful situations, and escalate guest or employee concerns swiftly and appropriately. Physical stamina is essential, with the ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds. Flexibility in work schedules, including availability during holidays and weekends, is also required to meet the demands of a dynamic, seasonal environment.
Key responsibilities for this position include meticulous food preparation that adheres to Solitude's high standards in flavor and presentation. Candidates will need to ensure all dishes are properly seasoned and inspected by the Sous Chef or Chef before service. Maintaining a clean and organized service line is critical; all food selections must be well-stocked, with mise-en-place prepared in sufficient quantities. Attention to detail in food presentation and the physical upkeep of workstations is essential to delivering a superior guest experience.
Guest service is a priority for the Cook II, who must be prompt, friendly, and efficient. Assistance to servers during busy periods is expected to help speed guests through dining lines while maintaining polite and professional guest interactions. The role also demands rigorous adherence to safety and cleanliness standards, including the proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment, safe food storage and rotation, and immediate reporting of any injuries. At the end of each shift, thorough cleaning and breakdown of service areas and daily inventory completion are required.
Solitude Mountain Resort is committed to equal opportunity employment, promoting diversity and inclusion across all hiring practices without regard to legally protected statuses. The resort also offers reasonable accommodations to applicants and employees with disabilities, further embodying its values of respect and accessibility.
Joining Solitude Mountain Resort as a Cook II / Line Cook offers the unique perk of working and playing in one of the most breathtaking mountain environments. Employees have access to select Alterra Mountain Company destinations, free season passes for themselves and eligible dependents, and discounts on lift tickets, food, rentals, retail, and lessons. Additional benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for eligible employees, pro deals with outdoor brands, a generous 401(k) plan with company match, and free counseling through the Employee Assistance Program. This role is perfect for culinary professionals eager to develop their skills in a dynamic setting while enjoying exceptional work-life balance in a mountain resort community.
