The Restaurant Host role at Pebble Beach Company is a critical position that embodies the company’s commitment to excellence in customer service and operational efficiency within its dining establishments. The host is responsible for greeting guests warmly and managing dining room reservations, ensuring a seamless dining experience. This role requires overseeing and assisting in maintaining the cleanliness of dining areas, describing unique table settings to bussers, managing reservation books and assigning tables, and confirming bookings for large parties. Additionally, the host manages the entrance coverage by greeting arriving guests and thanking departing ones, assists with special event setups such as buffet skirting and menu card insertion, and performs other operational tasks like checking menus for cleanliness and accuracy, answering telephones to take reservations, and maintaining waiting lists.

Furthermore, the Restaurant Host helps coordinate staffing levels and scheduling, assigns stations to wait staff, completes daily labor reports, and ensures strict adherence to Pebble Beach Company’s safety, health, and general policies. The position demands excellent customer service skills, the ability to manage stressful situations while maintaining professionalism, and the capacity to stand for long periods. Candidates must have a minimum of one year’s experience as a host in a high-volume restaurant environment, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a current food safety certification. Additionally, knowledge of Microsoft Office and POS (point of sale) systems is considered beneficial.

Job Duties

  • Oversee and assist in maintaining cleanliness of outlet
  • Describe table settings to busser whenever set-up differs from the usual
  • Ensure coverage of the entrance greeting arriving guests and thanking those that are leaving
  • Assist with special event set-up such as skirting buffet or inserting menu cards
  • Check reservations in book and assign table numbers
  • Ensure availability for resort guests
  • Call to confirm large parties
  • Check schedule and staffing levels
  • Check all menus for cleanliness and accuracy
  • Answer the telephone take reservations and give directions to restaurant
  • Maintain waiting list select table and escort guests to the table
  • Resolve guest problems whenever possible and direct communication with manager
  • Answer questions regarding menu items
  • Schedule reservations according to established procedures
  • Take beverage order and serve drinks when necessary
  • Provide captain's list when necessary
  • Bring guests' needs to the attention of appropriate dining room staff or management
  • Complete daily labor report
  • Assign stations to wait staff
  • Comply with all Pebble Beach Company safety health and general policies and procedures
