Job Description
Border Foods began as a simple idea shared by two brothers with a passion to open a Mexican restaurant and has since evolved into one of the largest privately held Taco Bell franchisees in America. As an industry leader, Border Foods takes pride in its commitment to a people-first mantra, emphasizing the importance of its employees at all levels—from cooks and cashiers to restaurant managers and beyond. This foundational belief drives the company culture and operations, inspiring every team member to embody the Core Values of Accountability, Integrity, Family, Excellence, Teamwork, and Empowerment. Border Foods is more than just a workplace; it is a family where continuous learning, evolution, and growth are encouraged. The company’s mission focuses on making lives better, both for its employees and customers, by fostering a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where individuals can thrive.
The role of General Manager at Border Foods is key to this mission. This position is entrusted with overseeing the entire operation of a restaurant, ensuring that every guest receives excellent food and a friendly experience. The General Manager is deeply involved in building and nurturing a strong team that not only meets but exceeds customer expectations. Central to this role is reinforcing and embodying the company’s core values, which guide daily operations and long-term strategies alike. Being a General Manager means maintaining a high standard of accountability and integrity by monitoring team member performance, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and adhering to all applicable laws and guidelines. It also involves strategic planning and financial management, including interpretation of profit and loss statements and controlling inventory and labor costs to maximize profitability.
Apart from operational responsibilities, the General Manager plays a pivotal role in fostering a family-oriented and collaborative team atmosphere. This involves resolving employee questions and issues, creating a safe workplace, motivating the team through active listening and communication, and cultivating a positive work environment where recognition and employee development are prioritized. Excellence in hiring, training, and retaining high-quality team members is another important aspect, along with facilitating continuous learning and career advancement. The role demands a commitment to empowerment, providing timely coaching, sharing ideas, and utilizing resources effectively to help the team succeed.
Border Foods offers its General Managers exceptional compensation, including base pay up to $100,000 per year complemented by a comprehensive bonus program with the potential to earn an additional $40,000 annually. Top performers are rewarded with annual trips to Mexico, celebrating the dedication and success of their teams. Additional benefits include education programs such as GED and tuition reimbursement, scholarship opportunities, medical, dental, and vision benefits for all employees including part-time staff, free food, paid vacation, sick and holiday time, and a vacation donation program. Beyond financial and material rewards, Border Foods cultivates an incredible culture that supports career growth and provides a strong network of support. This management role requires a minimum commitment of 50 hours per week and flexibility to work various shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. The General Manager position is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to lead a dynamic restaurant team, contribute to a thriving business, and make a meaningful impact on both the community and employees' lives.
