Job Description

Surety Hotel operates in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, delivering a unique hospitality experience in the historic Hippie Building. The hotel, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, beautifully merges the historic essence of a 1913 Beaux-Arts landmark with contemporary world-class hospitality. With 137 guest rooms and suites, alongside vibrant communal spaces, including the distinguished Mulberry Street Tavern, Surety offers both a welcoming retreat for travelers and a source of pride for the local community. Managed by Aparium Hotel Group, a company dedicated to bringing c-suite service to underserved cities through a deep respect for local character, Surety is a stellar example of blending independent style with high-end hospitality.

Mulberry Street Tavern is the culinary heartbeat of Surety Hotel, renowned for its ambitious dining experience that spans breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It presents an elevated standard in every service period, transforming each daypart from a refined morning meal to a dynamic evening destination. The role of General Manager at Mulberry Street Tavern is both a prestigious and demanding leadership position. As the primary food and beverage leader at the restaurant, the General Manager holds full responsibility for all operations without oversight from a Food & Beverage director, reporting directly to the Hotel General Manager. This role is instrumental in shaping the vision, setting standards, managing the financial health, and cultivating a cohesive and skilled team. The General Manager thrives both as a strategic leader and hands-on operator, spending significant time on the floor fostering exceptional service and warm guest relationships. This unique blend of duties positions the General Manager as a central figure in maintaining Mulberry Street Tavern's reputation and its standing in the regional dining landscape. The candidate must have significant experience managing high-volume, polished dining environments with a strong grasp of the operational intricacies including staffing, training, scheduling, inventory management, and customer service. A deep knowledge of beverage program development and execution enhances the ability to deliver a superior guest experience. This is a full-time, exempt position that requires flexible availability to cover varied shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role emphasizes close collaboration with the hotel’s broader team to deliver a unified hospitality experience while upholding high standards of safety and compliance in all aspects of restaurant operations. This position offers an outstanding opportunity for a motivated leader who is passionate about hospitality excellence and is ready to steer a high-profile restaurant to continued success and growth.
