Job Description

Aparium Hotel Group is a distinctive hospitality company founded in 2011 that places people, place, and character at the core of its operations. The company pioneers hotels in underserved cities that blend the precision of large operators with the intimate soul of independent establishments. One of Aparium's flagship properties is the Surety Hotel, located in the historical Hippee Building in downtown Des Moines. The hotel embraces the city's heritage through its blend of classic architecture dating back to 1913 and modern design, offering travelers a unique and authentic experience. Operating as part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, Surety Hotel is more than just a place to stay – it's a cultural hub and a point of pride within the city. With 137 guest rooms and suites, along with vibrant communal spaces, the hotel fosters connection and community at every turn. The Mulberry Street Tavern, situated onsite, anchors the hotel’s food and beverage offerings and stands as one of the most ambitious dining venues in the region, providing guests with memorable experiences from breakfast to dinner with a polished, elevated atmosphere throughout the day.

The role of General Manager at Mulberry Street Tavern is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing all facets of the restaurant operation. Reporting directly to the Hotel General Manager, this exempt-level position carries end-to-end ownership of the restaurant's vision, team, operational standards, and financial outcomes. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with demonstrated success managing high-volume, elevated full-service dining environments. They bring a combination of art and science to every service, balancing guest satisfaction with the precision of operational execution. The General Manager drives the restaurant’s culture, ensuring every detail from staffing and schedules to beverage programs and service standards is meticulously curated. This role also entails hands-on involvement during shifts to coach team members, maintain service quality, and cultivate strong relationships with guests. The position requires a strong understanding of beverage programs, including sommelier-level wine knowledge and cocktail experience, to elevate the guest experience. Financial stewardship is paramount, with responsibility for P&L management, inventory controls, and labor costs. Additionally, the General Manager collaborates closely with culinary leadership to refine menu offerings and maximize profitability while maintaining the brand's elevated standards. This leadership role extends beyond daily operations into broader hotel collaboration, including supporting events and activations to amplify Aparium’s signature translocal hospitality. The role demands adaptability, a deep commitment to team development, and a passion for creating memorable, high-quality dining experiences at every service period throughout the day. Working in an environment committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the General Manager helps build a welcoming and supportive workplace where every individual’s contribution is valued. If you are a driven hospitality professional with a strong operational background, exceptional beverage knowledge, and a desire to lead an exciting dining concept within a celebrated hotel, this is a unique opportunity to advance your career with Aparium and the Surety Hotel.
