Job Description
Border Foods began as a simple idea between two brothers to open a Mexican restaurant and has since evolved into one of the largest privately held Taco Bell franchisees in America. With a strong commitment to a people-first culture, Border Foods emphasizes its core values of Accountability, Integrity, Family, Excellence, Teamwork, and Empowerment. As a well-established franchising company, Border Foods is dedicated to creating safe, welcoming, and supportive environments not only for its customers but also for its employees, fostering a work culture where individuals can learn, evolve, and thrive in their careers.
The company’s hospitality-driven approach ensures that everyone, from cooks and cashiers to restaurant managers and leadership, works together to uphold these core values. This strong foundation has propelled Border Foods to significant growth, making it a competitive employer in the restaurant industry. Their dedication to employee development includes education programs, scholarship opportunities, and tuition reimbursement, reinforcing their commitment to fostering lifelong learning and career advancement within their family-like work culture.
In this role as a General Manager at Border Foods, located in Genoa, IL, your primary mission is to embody and reinforce the company’s core values while managing the day-to-day operations of the restaurant. This is an exempt management position focused on empowering your team and making meaningful impacts on both employees and customers. By creating a positive environment, you will drive excellent food quality and exceptional customer service, ultimately improving lives and enhancing the restaurant experience.
As a General Manager, you will be responsible for staffing and scheduling the team accurately, leading with integrity, and holding your team accountable for maintaining health, safety, and service standards. You will monitor performance, ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, and handle customer concerns with a genuine desire to find solutions. This role requires strategic planning to achieve restaurant profitability, including managing profit and loss (P&L) statements, labor control, inventory, and waste management. You will also lead recruitment efforts, overseeing hiring, training, new hire orientation, and ongoing employee development to build and maintain a high-performing team.
The company offers top pay in the industry, with General Managers having the potential to make up to $100,000 annually through base salary and bonus opportunities. Unique perks include an annual Best of the Best trip to Mexico for top performers, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits available even for part-time employees, free food, paid time off including vacation, sick, and holiday pay, and a vacation donation program. Border Foods fosters an empowering culture that encourages career growth, active coaching, engagement across the team, and recognition, helping employees realize their full potential.
This position requires a minimum of three years of combined restaurant or retail experience and education, with a strong emphasis on sales building, recruitment, and financial management. Candidates must be ServeSafe certified, at least 18 years old, hold a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, and be ready to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends, and some holidays. The General Manager is expected to be highly hands-on, working a minimum of 50 hours per week to meet operational demands effectively.
Border Foods is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and inclusion, actively supporting minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities. They do not discriminate based on gender identity or sexual orientation. Please note that this role is with a Taco Bell franchisee and not with Taco Bell Corp. or its affiliates; your employer will be the franchisee with its own defined wage and benefit programs.
