Dear Charles is a vibrant culinary destination located within The Study at Johns Hopkins, the fourth property of the esteemed Study Hotels brand. Nestled at the main gate of Johns Hopkins University's Homewood Campus, this restaurant enjoys a prime location within the revitalized Charles Village corridor, providing an immersive experience that connects guests with both campus life and the dynamic Baltimore community. Dear Charles is designed to be a hub for spirited conversations, local gatherings, and celebrations, bringing together a sense of community with a warm, approachable personality. The restaurant's menu is thoughtfully crafted with Mid-Atlantic influences, emphasizing locally sourced ingredients that appeal to diverse tastes through a range of robust and health-conscious options. The atmosphere is intimate, comfortably accommodating 85 seats, and reflects the village tavern warmth with an elevated but casual dining experience. This unique positioning allows Dear Charles to complement the energetic and open public spaces of the hotel while fostering a welcoming social dialogue through its distinctive voice and endearing sense of humor.
The Restaurant General Manager role at Dear Charles is crucial for ensuring excellence in all Front-of-House operations under the direction of the General Manager. This full-time position requires a dynamic leader with an engaging and big personality who thrives in team environments and enjoys entertaining and connecting with guests. The General Manager will oversee all aspects of restaurant operations, including the restaurant, lounge, to-go area, room service, pop-up events, and meeting spaces. The role demands flexibility due to the restaurant's operation seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night, resulting in varying shifts and hours.
Key responsibilities include training and developing a high-performing FOH team, maintaining efficient and exemplary guest service, and supporting a positive work environment that encourages curiosity, teamwork, and professional growth. The ideal candidate is expected to be highly visible within the operation, engaging regularly with guests and collaborating with PR and Marketing teams. Effective financial management is paramount, including controlling beverage costs, managing inventories, and leveraging marketing strategies to drive profitability. Compliance with all legal, safety, and sanitation standards is mandatory, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and safety for staff and guests alike.
This position offers a unique opportunity to lead in a high-profile, upscale casual dining environment that values energetic, service-oriented professionals dedicated to delivering memorable guest experiences. Eligible full-time team members benefit from a competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays. Dear Charles, as part of Study Hotels, is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace that values diversity and equal opportunity. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, along with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting and a passion for hospitality that supports the brand's mission and values.
