This role is based onsite in San Francisco, California, and offers an hourly wage ranging from $22.03 to $27.54, reflective of experience and market considerations. The Restaurant Cook position at Neiman Marcus is integral to maintaining the high standards of the company’s dining experience. This professional supports the main restaurant associates by preparing and managing quality food items while monitoring inventory costs and profitability. The role demands both culinary expertise and operational coordination to ensure guests consistently receive excellent food and beverage service. The cook plays a critical part in controlling daily and weekly inventories and collaborates closely with supervisors to prepare for special menu requirements and maintain efficient production flow during daily service.
The Restaurant Cook must oversee the preparation of menu items using production sheets designed to limit food waste while meeting supply demands. Maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment following Health Department standards and third-party audits is crucial. Daily duties also include equipment upkeep and prompt communication with team members regarding special orders or supply needs. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 3 years of relevant cooking experience
- Ability to stand, bend, climb stairs, and lift up to 35 pounds
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration
- Willingness to maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures carefully
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar cooking role
- Strong teamwork and 'win together' mentality
- Knowledge of health and sanitation standards and best practices
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain cleanliness
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
Job Duties
- Maintain an active role in the smoothness and efficiency of retail restaurant operations by producing and coordinating the production of food items needed for daily menus and special events
- Control daily and weekly inventories
- Maintain team awareness of inventory cost and profitability through proper use of production, build-to, and order sheets
- Check in with supervisor for any special preparation needed before starting normal kitchen tasks
- Perform job responsibilities normally associated with those of a cook, including coordinating production of daily menu items using menu count and production (or build-to sheets) to help control waste
- Check inventory of all menus
- Communicate supply needs for production with head cook
- Maintain a clean and organized work area keeping in mind all health and sanitation standards to assure integrity of food products
- Maintain equipment daily and report any malfunctions to designated Associate
- Maintain flow of food orders by communicating with Associates promptly
- Verify all special orders with designated Associate
- Maintain production of menu items throughout the day, keeping up with supply demands and making serious efforts to avoid wasted items
- Close and sanitize work area promptly according to health codes and gather items required for next day's production
- Communicate any supplies that need to be ordered to supervisor
- Check in with a supervisor before leaving
- Uphold all health and sanitation standards as directed by Neiman Marcus, local Health Department, and 3rd party Sanitation auditors
