Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks foods of all types either regularly or for special guests or functions
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of cooks and workers engaged in food preparation
  • Collaborates with other personnel to plan and develop recipes and special menus considering seasonal ingredient availability and customer numbers
  • Checks quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure standards are met
  • Checks quantity and quality of received products
  • Demonstrates new cooking techniques and equipment to staff
  • Determines food presentation and creates decorative food displays
  • Determines production schedules and staff requirements to ensure timely service delivery
  • Estimates amounts and costs of required supplies such as food and ingredients
  • Inspects supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure compliance with established standards
  • Instructs cooks and other workers on preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food
  • Monitors sanitation practices to ensure employee adherence to standards and regulations
  • Orders or requisitions food and supplies needed for efficient operation
  • Recruits and hires kitchen staff including cooks
  • Maintains current knowledge of fine dining restaurant trends and follows all recipes, specifications, and control procedures
  • Maintains professional grooming and appearance as a role model
