The Food Runner role at La Popular is vital to maintaining the smooth flow of operations and delivering an exceptional dining experience. This position demands an individual with a passion for the brand, strong communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting while adhering to company policies. Food Runners are responsible for ensuring that menu items reach guests promptly and in excellent condition according to La Popular’s time standards. They must have a solid understanding of the menu, including rotating daily specials and limited knowledge of beer, tequila, and mezcal to answer guest inquiries accurately. The role involves attentiveness to detail, such as proper placement of food and drinks, replenishing condiments, bussing tables, and maintaining a clean expo area.
Daily duties also include memorizing table and bar seat numbers, managing equipment such as coffee, tea, and espresso machines if applicable, and performing opening and closing tasks that involve cleaning and food prep. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment preferred
- Food Handler Certification
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Capability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to work with and around hot, cold, and hazardous equipment
- Excellent teamwork and community mindset
Job Qualifications
- Food Handler Certified
- Familiarity with coffee, tea and espresso machines is a plus
- Basic knowledge of beer, tequila and mezcal
- Ability to memorize menus and seating arrangements accurately
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties
- Expedite all menu items throughout the shift to the guest within La Popular's time standards and provide the best quality product for each guest
- Attend to the needs of all guests in a professional and courteous manner and answer the telephone as needed
- Memorize food, drink and rotating menus on a daily basis in order to respond to guests' inquiries
- Know all table and bar seat numbers and deliver food and drink orders with proper placement
- Polish, replenish, and roll silverware
- Collect dirty dishes and bring them to the kitchen
- Replenish condiments such as straws, napkins and ice
- Bus tables throughout the restaurant and set tables to La Popular standards
- Maintain the expo area in clean condition and sweep and mop floor as needed
- Perform appropriate opening and closing duties such as cleaning and food prep
