The Applebee's Assistant Manager role at Flynn Group is a vital position responsible for managing day-to-day restaurant operations to ensure an exceptional experience for both guests and staff. This position requires a passionate team leader who excels at problem-solving and can effectively handle stress while maintaining a positive work environment. Assistant Managers are charged with upholding the company's high standards for service, product quality, cleanliness, safety, and staff development. They play a critical role in fostering a culture aligned with Flynn Applebee's core values and the Premier Card standards.

In this role, you will be actively involved in managing the restaurant staff, promoting and maintaining outstanding guest service, conducting regular inventory checks, scheduling employees according to sales demands, and ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations. The Assistant Manager also contributes to employee recruitment, training, performance assessments, and development, thus supporting the growth of a skilled and motivated team. You will be expected to be hands-on, willing to assist in various positions within the restaurant such as line cooking, bartending, and seating guests, ensuring smooth and efficient operations at all times.

The position offers competitive hourly wages ranging from $17.48 to $25, which translates to approximately $50,000 to $71,500 annually based on a 50-hour workweek. Additional compensation includes potential monthly bonuses depending on location, profit-sharing opportunities, and a comprehensive benefits package. This package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, health savings accounts, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, legal coverage, and a 401(k) plan with company match. Paid vacation and sick leave are also provided, with additional paid time off accrued based on length of employment. Part-time managers receive prorated benefits based on their hours worked.

Physical standards for the role require the ability to work varied shifts, including weekends, stand and move continuously for up to ten hours, and safely lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Good communication skills are needed to effectively read, write, and use small tools and equipment.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years of restaurant management experience
  • ability to work various shifts including weekends
  • capacity to stand and move for up to ten hours
  • capability to lift up to 50 pounds safely
  • good reading and writing skills
  • finger and hand dexterity for small tools and equipment
  • willingness to assist in multiple restaurant positions as needed

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years restaurant management experience
  • Serve Safe Food and Serve Safe Alcohol Certifications are a plus
  • strong leadership and communication skills
  • ability to handle stressful situations effectively
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Ensures timely, friendly service according to company guidelines, achieving established objectives of the unit
  • cultivates a culture in accordance with the Flynn Applebee's Premier Card of core values and beliefs
  • ensures the immediate response and correction of all verbal guest complaints to self and staff
  • ensures guest contact as a priority with completion of required table visits established by Flynn Applebee's standards
  • maintains departmental inventory levels
  • ensures product preparation and presentation uncompromisingly meeting company standards by performing line checks
  • effectively schedules employees to meet sales demands
  • maintains effective safety and security programs
  • promotes and leads restaurant organization, cleanliness and sanitation
  • performs routine maintenance and immediately reports to the General Manager/Area Director of needed repairs
  • promotes quality recruitment and referrals of potential team member and management candidates
  • promotes Flynn | Applebee's training procedures for new managers
  • helps maintain a trained staff through effective use of employment orientation, individual training sessions, employee meetings and implementation of company policy and training systems
  • participates in the constant development of employees using One-on-One and performance documentation, and contributes to the completion of written evaluations
  • assesses the efficiency of employees, provides fair feedback on a regular basis, and continuously works with employees on their areas of development
  • monitors acceptable employee performance and documents situations that require or could lead to disciplinary or corrective action
  • assures compliance with company policies, practices and procedures
  • responsible for controlling cost in assigned department
  • compliance with local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines
  • drives bi-weekly / weekly food and liquor inventories at the AD/GM's request and is accountable for completion
  • responsible for preparing and submitting accurate daily paperwork
  • assures sanitation standards meet or exceed Health Department and Flynn Applebee's standards
  • provides a role model for managers and employees
  • develops self on all store related technology
  • must be willing and able to work in all positions and assist in a team member position as needed when in a restaurant
  • uses the Management Development Program for continuous growth of leadership skills and proficiencies
