Job Description

We are a well-established and respected restaurant seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant General Manager (AGM) to join our leadership team. Our restaurant prides itself on providing exceptional culinary experiences to our guests, delivered through excellent service and high operational standards. With a strong commitment to maintaining a welcoming atmosphere, efficient operations, and a motivated team, we aim to exceed customer expectations consistently. The restaurant operates as a full-time establishment offering a salary of $90,000 per year alongside a comprehensive benefits package including 401k with company match, health, dental, and vision insurance for full-time employees, holiday pay, paid vacation, and robust opportunities for professional growth and leadership development. These benefits also include maternity and paternity leave for full-time team members and travel perks with discounts at affiliated hotel properties.

The Assistant General Manager is entrusted with the vital role of supporting the General Manager in all facets of restaurant operations. This role is integral to ensuring operational excellence, financial accountability, exceptional guest experiences, and compliance with company standards and applicable legal requirements. The AGM leads both front-of-house and back-of-house teams, oversees daily activities, and ensures that the restaurant delivers on service and quality standards. In the absence of the General Manager, the AGM assumes full responsibility for the restaurant’s operations.

Key responsibilities of this role include supervising staff, maintaining service and safety standards, managing labor deployment, and driving guest satisfaction through attentive and effective management. The AGM plays a hands-on role in coaching and developing employees to foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, respect, and accountability. Operationally, the AGM oversees opening and closing procedures, monitors the dining room and kitchen flow, manages inventory, vendor relationships, maintenance, and special events.

Financial stewardship is a crucial component of the role. The Assistant General Manager assists with profit and loss performance, manages labor and cost controls, purchasing, inventory, and expense verification. There is a strong focus on improving profitability without compromising quality or guest satisfaction. Additionally, the AGM supports human resource functions including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and succession planning. The role requires a thorough understanding of regulatory compliance, including adherence to labor laws, safety standards, responsible alcohol service, and health codes relevant to California and federal guidelines.

Our restaurant embraces technology in our recruitment and operational practices, utilizing automated decision systems (ADS) to enhance candidate evaluation and screening processes. We encourage prospective applicants who may require alternative hiring procedures or accommodations to contact us via email as listed on our careers page. This role offers a dynamic opportunity to grow professionally within a supportive and forward-thinking hospitality environment, emphasizing leadership development and operational excellence, while contributing directly to our continued success and guest satisfaction.
