Job Description
Ghirardelli is a renowned company deeply rooted in tradition yet continuously pushing the boundaries of innovation to become the leading premium chocolate brand in the United States. Founded over 48 years ago, Ghirardelli started as a humble soda fountain and retail store located in the iconic Ghirardelli Square. Since then, it has evolved into a vibrant division comprising over 700 dedicated colleagues, united by a shared vision to transform the way consumers experience chocolate. At Ghirardelli, Making Life A Bite Better goes beyond creating delicious products; it is embedded in the company’s culture and business practices, fostering a nurturing and inspiring workplace where employees’ growth and contributions are highly valued and directly impact the organization’s ongoing success and expansion.
The current opportunity is for a Supervisor position within Ghirardelli’s Restaurant and Retail division. This role is vital in managing operations, team performance, and customer satisfaction at one of Ghirardelli’s store locations. As a Supervisor, you will be entrusted with overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the store, ensuring that both employees and customers enjoy an outstanding experience. You will work closely with the General Manager and the broader management team to uphold the company’s high standards relating to customer service, financial performance, and safety. Your leadership will help maintain a positive work environment where employees feel supported and motivated, enabling Ghirardelli to continue being a great place to work.
This role offers immediate openings with the ability to start within days, providing a competitive starting wage of $22.25 per hour plus tips. Employees enjoy additional perks such as holiday pay at time and a half, free sundaes or shakes on every shift, a generous 50% employee discount, and the chance for quarterly bonuses. The store operates Monday through Sunday with varying hours, including shifts that may begin up to two hours before or end after store hours to accommodate preparation and cleaning.
As a Supervisor, you will be the face of the company, embodying Ghirardelli’s brand values and serving as a key point of contact both internally and externally. You will manage store safety and risk, facilitate effective communication at all organizational levels, and collaborate with corporate departments such as human resources, IT, finance, and payroll. Operational duties include prioritizing daily activities, managing sales floor or sales units, handling escalated customer service issues, and ensuring adherence to cleanliness, food safety, and allergy communication protocols.
In terms of people management, you will assist with payroll, scheduling, hiring, and training while supporting and developing team members through coaching and mentoring. Maintaining high standards of discipline and employee relations also falls under your purview. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to foster teamwork and empowerment, effective time management, and familiarity with point-of-sale systems like MICROS. Experience in restaurant or retail management techniques is highly valued.
The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and bring at least one year of experience in a fast-paced restaurant or retail environment, including some supervisory experience. Physically, you should be able to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds occasionally and be willing to travel to various locations across the country if required. Ghirardelli is committed to equal opportunity employment and encourages qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records to apply in accordance with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
