The role available at ChristianaCare specifically targets a licensed respiratory therapist who is proficient, professional, and accountable in executing diagnostic pulmonary function testing alongside a range of specialized respiratory care procedures. This position is integral to the pulmonary health team, encompassing responsibilities like hemodynamic monitoring, assisting with diagnostic procedures, and administering pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care. The respiratory therapist will also maintain pulmonary function equipment, implement quality control measures, and monitor performance improvement initiatives. This position offers a day shift schedule consisting of four 10-hour shifts from 7am to 5:30pm each week, with no weekend or holiday work required. The work week rotates between Monday and Friday, providing a regular weekend off followed by a four-day weekend off on an ongoing pattern. Ideal candidates for this respiratory therapist role are expected to be graduates of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved School of Respiratory Therapy and hold current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials with a minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience. Additional requirements include maintaining current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred, active licensure in the state of Delaware, and membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) is desirable. The respiratory therapist will perform a comprehensive suite of pulmonary function tests, including spirometry, diffusion capacity, lung volumes, maximal respiratory pressures, and body plethysmography, as well as arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.

In this role, the therapist is also responsible for pulse oximetry with exercise tests, assisting physicians during bronchoscopies, pleuroscopies, tracheostomy tube changes, and managing emergency respiratory situations with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway management. The position demands strict adherence to safety practices and infection control protocols, use of electronic health record software like Powerchart and Breeze, and commitment to ongoing education through mandatory annual training.
