Respiratory Care Practitioner (NRP)

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a state-of-the-art, full-service acute care hospital located at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway 242. Opened in June 2017, this 725,000-square-foot facility offers a broad spectrum of medical services mirroring the capabilities of the flagship Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. In January 2022, the hospital further expanded with the opening of Healing Tower, a $250 million expansion project adding 106 beds focused on medical-surgical and women's services, nine operating rooms, an expanded endoscopy center, an enlarged emergency department, and a diagnostic imaging department with an enhanced neurodiagnostic and interventional center.

As part of this innovative healthcare system, the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) plays a critical role within the multidisciplinary care team by delivering comprehensive respiratory care services to patients. The RCP position is full-time, primarily during the day shift, and classified as non-exempt. This role is essential in administering routine to complex respiratory care procedures, including medication preparation and administration, gas therapy, ventilator support, spirometry testing, and assistance with bronchoscopy. The RCP may also perform diagnostic testing of the cardiac and respiratory systems as appropriate.

The Respiratory Care Practitioner collaborates closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals, providing direct patient care and respiratory-related assistance within professional licensure scope. Responsibilities extend to monitoring treatment modalities, administering therapies, and conducting various diagnostic procedures to ensure accurate patient assessments and optimal clinical outcomes. RCPs at Houston Methodist are expected to adhere strictly to professional standards, guidelines, and safety regulations established by respiratory care and regulatory organizations as well as the hospital itself.

In addition to clinical duties, the RCP promotes a positive work environment and acts as a patient advocate, facilitating ethical and spiritual interventions to address patient needs. The role demands strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members, emphasizing compassionate care and superior customer service. RCPs participate actively in quality improvement initiatives and safety protocols, including equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance with documentation and billing standards.
