The opportunity for Respiratory Care Practitioners at Roper St. Francis Healthcare offers a vital role within the patient care team. This position is available in part-time shifts from 6:30pm to 7:00am, focusing on providing expert respiratory therapy services for both inpatients and outpatients. Respiratory Therapists at Roper St. Francis are trained professionals responsible for administering respiratory treatments and managing ventilatory support in accordance with established clinical guidelines and departmental policies. The role includes initiating, monitoring, and maintaining oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway management, mechanical and noninvasive ventilation, continuous pulse oximetry, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Beyond routine care, Respiratory Care Practitioners are engaged in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopic assistance, pulmonary rehabilitation, as well as patient and family education to promote optimal respiratory health. The therapy provided is customized to meet the distinct needs of various age groups, emphasizing individualized care and safety standards. The position demands proficiency in using respiratory care equipment and software for order entry and patient documentation. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of knowledge in cardiopulmonary physiology, infection control, and the clinical application of respiratory therapies.
The work environment is dynamic and physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand, walk, lift, and assist patients multiple times during a shift, often under stressful conditions or irregular hours, including possible weekend and holiday work. Job Requirements
- Graduate of AMA approved respiratory care program
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification
- Licensed to practice in South Carolina
- Current BLS certification
- ACLS and NRP within 90 days of employment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Corrected hearing and vision to normal range
- Exposure to infectious materials and willingness to work under stressful conditions
- Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays as needed
Job Qualifications
- Graduate of one or two year AMA approved respiratory care program
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Licensed by the Board of Medical Examiners of South Carolina
- Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card
- ACLS, NRP within 90 days of employment
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge in cardiopulmonary physiology and respiratory care equipment
- Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare staff
- Competency in infection control techniques and department computer systems
Job Duties
- Provide professional respiratory care for patients following established standards
- Initiate, monitor, and maintain oxygen therapy and aerosolized medications
