Job Description
Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a leading healthcare institution located at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway 242. Since its opening in June 2017, this 725,000-square-foot full-service acute-care hospital has been providing comprehensive healthcare services to the community. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, including two medical office buildings that house specialized centers such as the Breast Care Center, Cancer Center, infusion center, heart and vascular services, neurology, orthopedics and sports medicine, rehabilitation services, wellness services, outpatient laboratory, and numerous multispecialty physician practices.
In January 2022, Houston Methodist The Woodlands further expanded its capabilities with the opening of the Healing Tower, a $250 million project that added 106 beds focusing on medical-surgical and women’s services, along with nine new operating rooms. This expansion also enhanced the endoscopy center, emergency department, and diagnostic imaging department, introducing a cutting-edge neurodiagnostic and interventional center. Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is committed to delivering high-quality care and innovation in patient services, making it a premier institution in the region.
The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) position at Houston Methodist is a vital role responsible for performing a variety of respiratory care procedures that vary in complexity. This full-time night shift role involves preparing, administering, and monitoring medication and treatment modalities, including gas therapy, ventilator support, spirometry, and assistance with bronchoscopy. Additionally, the RCP may perform diagnostic testing related to the cardiac and respiratory systems as appropriate. The RCP plays a crucial role as a member of the direct patient care team, providing essential support to physicians and other healthcare professionals within the scope of their licensure.
This role demands adherence to established standards and guidelines set forth by respiratory and regulatory agencies as well as Houston Methodist policies, ensuring optimal patient safety and exemplary customer service. The Respiratory Care Practitioner is expected to deliver exceptional patient care by using advanced therapeutic communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Responsibility also includes troubleshooting and performing preventive maintenance on equipment, assisting in bronchoscopy procedures, and actively participating in quality improvement projects and continuing education to enhance personal and departmental performance.
The position requires an individual with strong interpersonal and team-oriented skills, who can manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining high standards of care and operational efficiency. The RCP is also expected to contribute positively to the work environment, promote team collaboration, and serve as a patient advocate, addressing ethical concerns and ensuring patient comfort throughout treatment. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, innovative setting where continual professional growth is encouraged through development plans and education opportunities. The employment is full-time, night shift, and non-exempt status, providing a rewarding career path for those dedicated to respiratory care in a leading healthcare system.
