The Executive Chef role at Crystal Mountain is a senior leadership position within the Food and Beverage department, reporting directly to the Director of Food and Beverage. This vital role carries responsibility for the overall culinary and stewarding operations at the resort's diverse dining venues which operate seasonally and year-round. The Executive Chef is tasked with ensuring an exceptional guest dining experience through the consistent delivery of high-quality food, innovative menu development, and rigorous food safety compliance. Leading a team of culinary professionals, this role focuses on training, development, cost control, and operational excellence. The Executive Chef works closely with the broader Food and Beverage leadership to create memorable dining experiences aligned with the resort’s brand and guest expectations.

The position commands a competitive wage ranging from $100,000 to $125,000 annually, with additional bonus eligibility. It is ideal for an experienced culinary leader with a minimum of 10 years in culinary roles, at least 4 years in executive chef capacity, and proven ability to manage high-volume operations and diverse kitchen teams. Advanced skills in food cost management, menu innovation, and compliance with health and safety regulations are crucial. Familiarity with software tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, FoodTrak, and sales and P&L reporting systems is required.

Physically, the role demands the ability to ski or snowboard at an intermediate level to access all dining venues distributed across the mountain. The Executive Chef must also be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the resort’s operating seasons. Job Requirements

  • Ability to ski/snowboard at intermediate level to access all venues

Job Qualifications

  • Culinary Arts, food production, hotel and restaurant degree preferred
  • minimum 10 years of on-the-job culinary experience with at least 4 years as Executive Chef
  • creative problem-solver with solution-based approach to operational challenges
  • demonstrated organization, dependability, mise en place, and execution in high-volume venues
  • team builder with ability to manage and develop a team
  • skilled in kitchen and safety equipment use
  • advanced computer skills including MS Office Suite, Excel, Teams, FoodTrak, Craftable, and P&L statements

Job Duties

  • Ensures great guest service through consistent execution of all menus and recipes
  • trains and manages all culinary and stewarding personnel
  • reviews, evaluates, and coaches all kitchen personnel including regular staff meetings
  • coaches and supports Executive Sous Chef with controlling day-to-day kitchen operations
  • oversees preparation, execution, and collaborates on design and creation of all menus including banquets and daily specials
  • leads culinary and food safety efforts for festivals and special events
  • ensures efficient preparation and presentation of all food items to agreed specifications
  • maintains cleanliness and good working order of kitchens and storage areas in compliance with food safety standards
  • maintains strict quality control on all food items
  • manages food inventory via strategic ordering and vendor engagement
  • ensures completion and verification of all food and beverage documentation
  • maintains productivity, schedules kitchen employees according to business forecasts, and controls labor costs
  • keeps food cost in line with budget while maintaining strategic product mix
  • oversees training of line cooks and assists on the line as needed
  • ensures compliance with safety and health standards
  • develops policies and procedures to enhance quality and reflects current techniques and equipment
  • establishes and maintains master cleaning and maintenance schedules
  • provides training and professional development opportunities for outlet chefs
  • ensures kitchen leaders engage staff in service lineups and meetings
  • maintains all safety standards including MSDS sheets and safety tracking data
  • attends senior resort meetings as required
  • performs other duties as directed
