Job Description
The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation is a sovereign tribe with ancestral roots that date back many centuries. Their heritage reflects a community of people who lived together in harmony through farming, hunting, and fishing. Today, the Sycuan Tribe continues to thrive by governing its Reservation and operating various successful business ventures in the San Diego region, including a state-of-the-art Casino and a beautiful Golf Resort. The tribe embodies a deep sense of community, valuing collaboration, respect, and shared purpose. As a member of the Sycuan team, you are not simply joining a workplace but becoming part of a family dedicated to excellence and cultural pride.
The Sycuan Tribe offers a unique employment opportunity in the hospitality sector, particularly within its renowned Casino and Resort. The role of a Banquet Server is pivotal in delivering outstanding guest experiences, focusing on food and beverage service during banquet events. This hourly position, with a TIP FRINGE compensation structure, is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with guests, working in a dynamic team environment, and contributing to high-quality events. The Banquet Server’s responsibilities involve a variety of tasks including verifying event setups, ensuring responsible alcohol service, and maintaining cleanliness and readiness of banquet areas.
In this role, the Banquet Server acts as the face of Sycuan’s hospitality services. Key duties include welcoming guests warmly upon arrival, reviewing banquet event orders to confirm details such as room arrangements, audio-visual equipment, lighting, and temperature settings. The server promptly delivers and clears food and beverage courses while communicating any meal modifications or timing changes to the kitchen and banquet captain. A strong emphasis is placed on customer service, requiring the server to respond promptly and courteously to guest requests, provide information on ongoing promotions or contests, and foster a welcoming atmosphere.
The role also demands adherence to responsible alcohol service policies to ensure guest safety and compliance with regulations. Servers must check identification for guests who appear underage, monitor alcohol consumption, and stop service at designated times, properly clearing rooms of alcoholic containers. Maintenance of sanitary banquet conditions is required, including cleaning surfaces, breaking down buffet setups, storing supplies correctly, and managing disposal of waste.
To succeed as a Banquet Server at Sycuan, candidates must hold a current food handler’s card, possess at least six months of experience in food service, and be at least 21 years old. Additional desirable qualifications include previous experience in guest or hospitality services, cocktail serving, and fine dining environments. The position requires physical stamina for prolonged standing and walking, the ability to lift and carry heavy trays, and strong communication skills in English.
Joining the Sycuan team means becoming part of a community-focused organization that values professionalism, teamwork, and the ability to provide memorable guest experiences. The Banquet Server role presents an exciting chance to engage in a supportive environment where cultural heritage and hospitality excellence meet. Candidates passionate about delivering superior guest service and contributing to a vibrant work culture are encouraged to apply and grow their careers with Sycuan.
