The role available is for a Counselor provider specializing in substance abuse and gambling treatment on the Adult Men's Residential Unit. This full-time position offers meaningful work helping individuals on their path to recovery and involves a dynamic range of responsibilities. The counselor will conduct intake and assessment sessions, develop treatment plans, provide individual and family counseling, facilitate group sessions, and participate in community education and prevention initiatives. Working closely with the Program Supervisor and Director, the counselor ensures that clients receive personalized care tailored to their recovery goals. The schedule includes shifts from Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday, with one late-night shift per week. This role requires strong clinical skills, familiarity with ethical and regulatory guidelines such as HIPAA and 42CFR, and the ability to manage complex client needs effectively.

Ideal candidates will possess a bachelor's or master’s degree in social or behavioral sciences, although equivalent experience as a counselor in substance use and gambling treatment may also be considered. Certification as a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) or International Alcohol & Drug Counselor (IADC) is required or must be pursued upon hire. The position demands a deep understanding of addiction treatment theories and practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams. In addition to clinical duties, the counselor contributes to quality assurance, training, and resource referral efforts. Job Requirements

Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited educational institution preferred, or three years of relevant full-time counselor experience
Certification as CADC or IADC in Iowa or reciprocal state required or must obtain upon hiring
Strong knowledge of addiction treatment theories and psychosocial factors
Familiarity with HIPAA, 42CFR, CARF, and IDPH standards
Excellent English communication skills
Ability to write reports and conduct presentations
Competency in using electronic health records and related software
Ability to develop and implement quality assurance practices
Capacity to handle multiple tasks and stressful situations effectively

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited educational institution, preferably in social or behavioral sciences
Three years of experience as full-time substance use and/or gambling treatment counselor can be considered in lieu of degree
Certification as CADC or IADC in Iowa or state with reciprocity, or willingness to seek certification upon hire
Knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of substance use and problem gambling treatment
Knowledge of psychosocial aspects of substance use and problem gambling
Knowledge of principles of recording and report writing
Familiarity with 42CFR and HIPAA regulations
Knowledge of CARF and IDPH licensure standards
Awareness of public/private welfare, health care, and treatment agencies in the service area
Ability to communicate effectively in English
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
Ability to write reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively to clients and agency employees
Ability to apply previous experience and training in treatment services
Ability to build good working relationships with clients and staff
Skill in client evaluation, therapeutic planning, and best practices integration
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Ability to manage stressful events professionally
Ability to use computer software including EHR systems

Job Duties

Assists clients in completion of necessary assessment forms/documents
Conducts individual assessment sessions for completion of psychosocial histories of clients
Participates with Program Supervisor in development of recommendations for clients
Prepares and distributes assessment results, reports, etc. as required and requested
Assists in other assessment processes as required and requested
Assists individuals and families in the intervention process through educational and planning sessions and participates in interventions when feasible
Maintains appropriate client and pre-client case records
Provides clients and families with referral resources for services not provided by the agency or when agency services are inappropriate
Provides training for agency staff in areas of own expertise
Provides client orientation to treatment services
Assists in the development, coordination, and evaluation of treatment program
Conducts individual and family sessions consistent with treatment plans
Develops and coordinates individual treatment plans with client, Program Director, and referral sources
Facilitates groups as required and provides follow-up services
May act as Program Supervisor’s designee in interviewing each client before admission to preview intake data
Participates in coordination of community awareness programs concerning substance use and problem gambling
Provides community education about substance use and problem gambling consistent with program philosophy and expertise
