The Residential Facility Cook role at Horizon is integral to the nutrition and care of patients within the residential setting. This full-time position is based at the 291 Elm St, Buffalo, NY location, with shifts scheduled between 6 AM and 6 PM, including weekends and holidays. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $18.82 to $20.29 per hour, with pay adjustments evaluated annually, reflecting experience and education levels. Holiday shifts are compensated with time and a half pay plus floating holidays.
As a Residential Facility Cook, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious and well-portioned meals for patients, adhering strictly to FDA, USDA, State, and County food safety regulations. Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment is paramount, with duties extending to dish washing, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning tables, guaranteeing compliance with health standards. You will meticulously document temperatures, meal counts, and production activities, supporting the seamless operation of the kitchen.
The role requires you to work within a four-week cycle menu, bringing creativity to seasonal menu modifications while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation. Teamwork and communication skills are crucial, as you will interact positively with patients and coworkers, adapting swiftly to the dynamic pace of healthcare food service. The physical demands of the position include standing for extended periods, mobility involving repetitive wrist and hand movements, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and frequent use of kitchen tools and equipment.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with two or more years of cooking experience in hospital, clinical, long-term care, restaurant, or similar facility
- OR Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts
- Full-time availability with shifts between 6 AM - 6 PM
- Weekend and holiday availability with holiday pay and floating holiday
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work standing for extended periods and perform repetitive hand and wrist movements
- Willingness to follow safe food handling protocols

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two or more years of cooking experience in hospital, clinical, long-term care, restaurant, or similar facility
- Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts considered a plus

Job Duties
- Prepare meals for patients and prep items for later service
- Attend to appearance, quality, and proper portioning of all menu items
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, keeping equipment in clean and proper working order
- Perform dish washing, sweeping, mopping, cleaning tables, and other cleaning duties
- Adhere to FDA, USDA, State, and County safe food handling procedures
- Maintain proper documentation of temperatures, meal counts, and production sheets
- Project a positive attitude and exemplary customer service when interacting with patients
- Clearly and effectively communicate with coworkers and patients
