Job Description
Compass Group is a global leader in foodservice management and hospitality services, operating a diverse range of dining facilities including educational, corporate, healthcare, and leisure settings. At the University of Houston campus located at 4700 Calhoun Road, Compass Group provides quality food services designed to enhance the dining experience of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. With a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and employee development, Compass Group offers meaningful careers that empower associates to make a difference in their communities while enjoying competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, and growth opportunities. The organization uses innovative tools like the One @Work app to offer perks such as Instapay, ensuring employees have convenient access to their earnings and resources.
The Residential Baker position at the University of Houston is a full-time role focused on preparing a variety of baked goods including breads, pies, cakes, cookies, and other pastries according to established recipes and production specifications. The role requires open availability and weekend work to meet the demands of campus dining services. Bakers at Compass Group play a vital role in maintaining food quality, presentation, safety, and sanitation standards, working collaboratively to meet daily production targets efficiently and effectively. This position demands prior baking experience and a keen attention to detail to ensure all products meet the highest culinary standards.
Bakers will assist with production planning, waste tracking, and inventory management by reporting shortages to supervisors. They are responsible for maintaining a clean work environment, handling food safely, and adhering to corporate and OSHA safety standards. Interaction with customers is valued, offering opportunities to provide excellent service and address feedback professionally. This position offers a chance to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to delivering exceptional baked goods that contribute to a positive campus dining experience.
In addition to bakery duties, associates at Compass Group benefit from numerous training and development opportunities designed to support career progression and personal growth. The company fosters a supportive workplace culture where employees are encouraged to learn, innovate, and contribute to a shared mission of enhancing customers’ dining experiences. Full-time associates enjoy access to comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance plans, commuter benefits, an employee assistance program, and various voluntary insurance options. Part-time employees also receive valuable benefits such as associate shopping programs, health and wellness resources, and identity theft protection.
Compass Group’s commitment to equal employment opportunity ensures that every applicant is evaluated fairly, without discrimination based on race, sex, age, veteran status, sexual orientation, or any protected classification. The company values diversity and strives to create an inclusive environment where all associates can thrive. Applicants must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Due to the educational environment, there may be periods of temporary layoff during breaks when food service demand decreases, although year-round work may be required based on business needs.
Overall, the Residential Baker role at the University of Houston represents an opportunity to join a respected global company that values its people and their contributions. It offers competitive wages, a comprehensive benefits package, and a supportive, inclusive culture that prioritizes employee well-being, safety, and professional development. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply promptly as applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis until all openings are filled.
