Job Description
The Connection is a statewide human services and community development agency dedicated to providing innovative and effective solutions to complex social challenges such as homelessness, mental illness, substance use, child welfare, and community justice rehabilitation. With a mission to improve lives and strengthen communities across Connecticut, The Connection offers a wide range of programs designed to support vulnerable populations and create pathways toward stability, health, and self-sufficiency. The organization fosters a supportive, inclusive, and professional environment for employees committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve. One of its key programs, the Roger Sherman House, focuses on helping adult men re-enter the community successfully after incarceration through a residential work release program. This program is a critical component of The Connection’s community justice initiatives, aiming to reduce recidivism and support rehabilitation through comprehensive supervision, education, and guidance.
The Residential Aide position at Roger Sherman House provides an exciting opportunity to work on the front lines of community justice reform. This role is responsible for the direct supervision and support of adult men enrolled in the residential work release program, ensuring their safety and promoting a harm-free living environment. The Residential Aide develops and maintains respectful, trust-based relationships with program residents, playing a vital role in their rehabilitation and reintegration journey. Working within Adult Services and closely collaborating with Community Justice program staff, the Residential Aide contributes to educating, rehabilitating, and guiding clients as they transition from incarceration back into the community.
This position is offered on a per diem basis with a competitive hourly wage of $20.00. The schedule is flexible and includes varying days, shifts, and hours according to program needs, providing a dynamic and adaptive work environment. Successful candidates will be expected to attend a mandatory two-day New Hire Orientation at The Connection’s Roscommon office in Middletown. This orientation prepares new staff for the complexities of their roles and reinforces The Connection’s commitment to quality services and employee development.
Ideal candidates possess strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive residential environment, and reliable attendance. The role demands the ability to establish professional boundaries while fostering empathy and support. Experience working with justice-involved individuals or within residential programs is highly valuable. The Connection offers an inclusive workplace culture where employees’ efforts are recognized and supported through ongoing training, competitive benefits for full-time employees, and a meaningful mission-driven work experience. Joining Roger Sherman House as a Residential Aide means becoming part of a dedicated team shaping positive outcomes for people re-entering society and contributing to safer, healthier communities.
