Founded on the principle that quality, affordable housing forms the foundation for prosperity, personal fulfillment, and success, CHI's mission is to eradicate generational poverty and promote upward mobility. The organization ensures that every family and individual has access to quality housing, a home of their own, and the means to sustain themselves through employment. With their compassionate approach and holistic services, CHI empowers individuals to build better lives and stronger communities.
The role of Resident Support Specialist (RSS) at CHI is a part-time position based in the Riverhead location. This role is essential in fostering a safe, structured, and supportive environment for both residents and staff. RSS professionals are responsible for maintaining security and order within the facility by verifying client movement, monitoring conduct, and overseeing overall behavior during shifts. The RSS will serve as the frontline point of contact for residents and visitors, ensuring compliance with facility rules and safety protocols. Key responsibilities include screening clients and visitors, conducting bag searches upon intake, de-escalating potential crises, and documenting any incidents with detailed reports. Additionally, the RSS completes rounds throughout the facility, monitors surveillance and fire detection systems, supports fire drills, assists with room preparation for new clients, and manages office and cleaning supply inventories. This position requires professionalism demonstrated through maintaining visibility via safety vests and identification badges, as well as fulfilling administrative tasks such as front desk receptionist duties.
This role demands strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively, and a commitment to upholding the organization's standards and policies. The salary is set at $19.00 per hour, approximately $15,808 annually, with opportunities for overtime available. Open shifts include weekend mornings and afternoons, making it a flexible option for those seeking part-time employment. Working at CHI means joining a motivated and caring team focused on making a significant social impact while offering employees career development opportunities and comprehensive benefits.
