The role of Resident Assistant / Caregiver is vital to the day-to-day well-being and comfort of residents. This position involves engaging with residents to assist in their activities of daily living, monitoring their health, and supporting their participation in community activities. The Resident Assistant / Caregiver works closely with the Resident Services Director and Wellness Nurse to ensure resident care plans are followed and any changes in condition are promptly communicated. This role requires responsiveness to resident calls and emergencies, application of safe care practices, and maintaining cleanliness and order within the living and dining areas. Additionally, fostering positive relationships with residents and their families is a key component of this role. This job demands compassion, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude toward care and safety, making it essential for candidates to be dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for each resident. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior caregiving experience preferred
  • Ability to follow residence policies and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage physical demands of the role including safe lifting
  • Ability to document and report observations accurately
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to attend staff meetings and training
  • Must respect resident rights and maintain confidentiality

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in caregiving or resident assistance preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow individual service plans
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of safety and health regulations
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor
  • Basic proficiency in documentation and reporting
  • Ability to attend required training sessions
  • Ability to respond promptly to resident calls and emergencies

Job Duties

  • Provide quality care and assistance to residents in accordance with residence philosophy and policies and resident rights
  • Assist residents in meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs
  • Adhere to each resident's individual service plan and notify Resident Services Director and Wellness Nurse of any condition changes
  • Answer and respond immediately to resident calls
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living
  • Check on residents every two hours and document and report findings
  • Assist with resident activities and encourage participation
  • Escort residents to and from the dining room and assist with meals according to individual needs
  • Assist with cleaning dining room after meals
  • Assist with cleaning and tidying residents' rooms or apartments
  • Assist with residents' personal laundry as needed
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with residents and their families
  • Dispose of incontinent products according to OSHA regulations and residence policy
  • Practice proper body mechanics and safety guidelines
  • Respond to resident emergencies following residence policies
  • Offer choice, maintain dignity, and promote individuality for residents
  • Protect and maintain resident rights
  • Encourage and support resident independence
  • Carry out duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Attend all regular staff meetings and required training sessions
  • Communicate resident information to team members on a need-to-know basis
  • Notify supervisor or wellness nurse of changes in resident condition
  • Respond to on-the-job injuries per community policies
  • Notify supervisor of concerns or questions from residents' family members
