Job Description

CFH is a committed organization that operates a Shelter under contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS). As a contract agency, CFH holds stringent accountability and compliance responsibilities, including adhering to regular inspections and audits by DHS, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City. The Shelter serves a vital role in the community by providing safe and secure housing along with supportive services to individuals facing homelessness. CFH's mission is grounded in respect for human dignity, and they strive to create an environment where residents feel safe, supported, and empowered to regain stability in their lives.

This role, Residence Worker/Food Service Worker, is critical to the facility's safety and operational success. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Shelter Director or their designee, forming part of the essential safety team responsible for maintaining the security and well-being of all residents. This position requires a unique blend of safety awareness, customer service capability, and food service skills.

In this position, you will be responsible for enforcing facility rules, responding promptly to emergencies, helping maintain order, and ensuring compliance with government regulations. You will also oversee the distribution of client supplies and meals, prepare and serve food in accordance with health and safety standards, and maintain cleanliness in dining and food preparation areas. An understanding of portion control and inventory management is necessary, as is the ability to manage food deliveries and report inventory needs.

The Residence Worker/Food Service Worker acts as a first responder for any incidents or emergencies within the facility, providing critical interventions including CPR or calling emergency services when necessary. You will also regularly conduct rounds throughout the facility, monitoring client activities, cleanliness, and adherence to rules. Additional responsibilities include registering new clients, conducting orientation, facilitating vacancy control, and assisting residents with reminders related to medication and appointments.

Training is an important aspect of the role, and employees are expected to participate in ongoing professional development, including mandatory training sessions set by the Department of Health (DOH) and DHS. Effective communication and teamwork within an interdisciplinary setting are essential for achieving the facility's overarching goals.

CFH values diversity and inclusivity and encourages people with criminal records to apply, underscoring the organization's commitment to social justice and second chances. This position demands strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to safety, and a compassionate approach to client service. It offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on vulnerable populations while working in a structured and supportive environment. The role is typically full-time and may offer competitive compensation consistent with sector standards, though specific salary details should be confirmed during the application process.
