Job Description
Mettler Toledo is a recognized global leader specializing in precision instruments and services, with a reputation built on innovation, quality, and comprehensive customer support. Operating in over 140 countries with a strong and direct presence in about 40, Mettler Toledo serves a wide range of industries including laboratory, process analytics, industrial applications, product inspection, and retailing. The company prides itself on its global market strength, extensive sales and service network, thousands of patents, and numerous design and innovation awards. Mettler Toledo's brand is synonymous worldwide with precision, quality, and innovation, ensuring their customers receive extraordinary service and state-of-the-art equipment.
The Field Service Technician - Product Inspection position is based in Texas, specifically in the Amarillo, Lubbock, or Hereford areas. This role is pivotal in delivering world-class field service support for Mettler Toledo's product inspection equipment, which includes Safeline X-Ray systems, Safeline Metal Detectors, Hi-Speed Checkweighers, and CI Vision machines. The technician will be responsible for executing start-ups, conducting audits, performing maintenance and repairs, and delivering training to customers, ensuring all operations meet the company’s high standards and best practices.
This position demands a highly skilled individual capable of managing all aspects of field service support. Responsibilities extend beyond technical repair and service calls to include effective communication with customers and internal dispatch teams, detailed preparation and submission of service reports and documentation, and maintaining job assignments under tight schedules. Technicians must prioritize safety requirements, both for Mettler Toledo personnel and client sites, while actively participating in ongoing technical training to stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and service procedures.
Field Service Technicians act as trusted advisors to clients, fostering strong customer relationships through excellent problem-solving, conflict management, and exceptional customer service skills. The role requires flexibility, with potential weekend and after-hours work, as well as travel that may include extensive U.S. and occasional international trips with overnight stays. Technicians must efficiently handle equipment, tools, and inventories supplied by the company and work cooperatively with different departments and teams, adapting quickly to evolving priorities and service demands.
The physical demands of the job are significant and include frequent bending, stooping, crawling, standing, and maneuvering in tight or dimly lit spaces. Candidates must be comfortable working in various environments — from cold and hot to damp or noisy conditions, including meat and dairy plants—where exposure to allergens and explosive atmospheres is possible. The role requires the ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 75 pounds regularly, operate large industrial machinery, and use both mechanical and electrical tools proficiently.
Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for those holding an associate degree in electronics or engineering technology or equivalent work experience. Critical skills include strong verbal and written communication, proficiency with hand tools and digital test equipment, a solid understanding of mechanics, electronics, conveyor systems, electrical distribution systems, and the ability to interpret blueprints and schematics. A valid driver’s license and passport are necessary, alongside a willingness to undertake extensive travel and variable working hours.
Mettler Toledo offers a competitive benefits package to support its employees, including medical, dental, and vision care coverage, a 401(k) savings plan with company matching starting from the date of hire, a company car with paid insurance, all necessary tools and equipment with a clothing allowance, tuition reimbursement, employee wellness programs, parental and caregiver leave policies, paid time off, flexible spending, disability insurance, life insurance, business travel insurance, and an Employee Assistance Program. The company's commitment to equal opportunity employment ensures a diverse and inclusive work environment where all employees are valued and respected.
