Job Description

Rail Events Productions (REP), a division of American Heritage Railways, specializes in delivering captivating live theatrical experiences aboard moving trains, creating immersive and memorable events for all ages. Known for its innovative productions that blend theatrical artistry with the unique setting of rail travel, REP has made significant contributions to immersive entertainment. The Local Production Manager position for the Harry PotterTM: A Hogwarts Express Adventure is a seasonal, exempt role offering a weekly salary of $1,450. This position plays a crucial role in the successful production of this interactive and celebratory live show, which takes place aboard a moving train with an ensemble cast and crew of 40-50 daily plus guests exceeding 2,000. The Local Production Manager will work closely with the Director of Production, the REP Production Manager, and the Associate Production Manager as an integral member of the local REP team. Key responsibilities include overseeing and managing all technical and operational aspects of the event, ensuring smooth collaboration among cast, crew, staff, and third-party contractors.

Specifically, the role involves managing pre-production and day-to-day event operations, recruiting local crew for load-in, load-out, and run crew tasks, and coordinating with local vendors and contractors to source necessary materials and services. The Local Production Manager also helps maintain budgets, tracks expenses, and creates operator schedules. They are tasked with supervising lighting, audio, props, décor, wardrobe, and video departments, serving as the liaison between Rail Events Productions and on-site management. A critical aspect of the role includes enforcing safety protocols, maintaining a positive work environment, and delivering excellent customer service as needed. The position demands strong leadership, organizational skills, problem-solving capability, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Job Duties

  • work with the director of production and rep production managers during pre-production and take responsibility of day-to-day operations during the event in cooperation with the other on-site management
  • responsible for and a key team member in the preproduction work leading up to the opening of the event, the operation of the event, and the closing of the event
  • recruit local crew for load-in, load-out, and run crew of the local event
  • help source and organize materials and services with local vendors and contractors
  • assist with maintaining prepared budgets and tracking expenses
  • create and manage operator schedules
  • plan logistics and oversee the load-out under the guidance of the rep staff
  • supervise and manage local crew and staff including lighting, audio, props, décor, wardrobe, and video departments
  • serve as liaison between rail events productions and on-site management
  • work closely with the production staff during the preproduction process
  • serve as a customer service manager when the need arises
  • become familiar with organization safety rules and oversee the event staff’s adherence to safety
  • work with the entire event team to maintain a positive, enjoyable, and rewarding environment for all staff and passengers
  • become knowledgeable of all rep policies and procedures as well as the rep-owned assets and equipment
  • other duties as assigned
