Job Description
Endeavor Health is a comprehensive healthcare delivery system serving over 4.2 million residents across six counties in northeast Illinois. With more than 25,000 team members and over 6,000 physicians, the organization operates across 300 ambulatory locations and eight acute care hospitals, including Edward (Naperville), Elmhurst, Evanston, Glenbrook (Glenview), Highland Park, Northwest Community (Arlington Heights), Skokie, and Swedish (Chicago). Each hospital is nationally recognized as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, reflecting Endeavor Health's commitment to quality nursing care. The system is dedicated to providing accessible, community-connected care that is both compassionate and expert, aiming to transform patient experiences close to home.
Endeavor Health fosters an inclusive workplace environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion are foundational values. They actively promote compassion, respect, and empathy among employees and towards patients, believing that strength comes from embracing differences and uniting talents to deliver exceptional community healthcare. The organization is also committed to accommodating individuals with disabilities, ensuring equitable opportunities for all team members. As a federal contractor, Endeavor Health affirms its status as an equal opportunity employer, welcoming applicants of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, national origins, disabilities, and veteran statuses.
The Registered Nurse SANE Program position at Evanston Hospital's Emergency Department represents a vital role within Endeavor Health. This per-diem position offers hourly pay ranging from $36.00 to $55.80, determined by the candidate's experience and expertise, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours of on-call availability every six weeks. The SANE nurse specializes in providing expert, compassionate care to sexual assault survivors, including adolescents and adults, performing comprehensive medical forensic exams. This involves detailed head-to-toe nursing assessments, anogenital examinations, forensic specimen collection, and photographic documentation, all performed independently and with sensitivity.
The SANE nurse collaborates closely with emergency room physicians, survivor advocates, law enforcement, criminal justice officials, and civil attorneys to ensure high standards of forensic nursing care and support for survivors. The role demands knowledge of forensic evidence collection, sexually transmitted infections, medication protocols, and awareness of the psychological impact of vicarious trauma on survivors. Team collaboration also extends to local partner organizations like the Swedish Hospital Emergency Department, Violence Prevention Program, and various law enforcement agencies, ensuring a coordinated, trauma-informed response to sexual assault cases.
This position requires attendance at SANE team meetings focused on peer and chart review to maintain compliance with professional forensic standards such as those set by SASETA and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. Additionally, the nurse may participate in courtroom proceedings related to sexual assault cases handled by Swedish Hospital. The role is ideal for highly skilled registered nurses with specialized training and certification in forensic nursing, seeking to make a significant impact in their communities through expert clinical and legal collaboration.
