The role of Registered Nurse (RN) Manager in the ICU at Tenet North Cal is a vital leadership position responsible for overseeing nursing operations during assigned shifts to ensure the highest quality of patient care. This full-time, ongoing position requires working 36 hours per week in 12-hour day shifts. The RN Manager is tasked with delivering skilled and compassionate nursing care, coordinating nursing activities, and acting as a resource for clinical decision-making within the Intensive Care Unit.

As the Critical Care Shift Manager, the RN is accountable for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating nursing practices that align with the hospital's mission and standards. They serve as a clinical leader and mentor, providing guidance and support to nursing staff, ensuring adherence to protocols, and facilitating professional development. This role requires a high degree of critical thinking, technical expertise, and integrity to handle complex patient care situations and interdisciplinary dynamics.

The RN Manager assists the Department Director in managing nursing personnel, overseeing patient care unit operations, and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement. Educational requirements for this role include a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, with advanced degrees such as a Master of Arts or Master of Science preferred for higher shift manager levels. Candidates must have completed an approved Critical Care course demonstrating superior arrhythmia recognition skills and achieved high scores on critical care medical and arrhythmia tests. A minimum of two years’ experience in a critical care setting within the past eight years and fulfilling a 1200 hours per year work requirement is essential.

Licensure and certification are mandatory, including an active California RN license, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) at the time of hire, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within six months. National certification is required for senior shift manager levels, while a BSN or national certification is necessary for mid-level managers. Additionally, 1-2 years of managerial experience is expected to fulfill leadership responsibilities effectively.
