The position available at CoreCivic is for a Registered Nurse (RN) Correctional House Supervisor based in Leavenworth, Kansas. This is a staff role with an annual salary of $123,000, offering an ongoing employment opportunity with CoreCivic’s medical department. Specifically, this role is focused on managing the daily clinical operations in a new Behavioral Health Unit. The House Supervisor will work closely with the Warden, Facility Administrator, or Health Service Administrator to ensure the effective delivery and supervision of nursing care.

This role demands a high level of responsibility as it involves overseeing both licensed and non-licensed health care staff. The RN Correctional House Supervisor will be tasked with supervising clinical activities, training new employees, evaluating staff performance, managing work schedules, and resolving any workplace issues or disputes according to both facility and corporate policies. The position requires the ability to provide direct patient care within the scope of nursing licensure, including duties such as executing physician orders, administering medication, assisting physicians, and performing emergency care.

Additionally, the Supervisor must manage staffing levels to maintain adequate coverage, fill in during staffing shortages, and undertake triage and physical assessments on patients. The role is vital in ensuring safety and health standards are met in what can be a complex and challenging institutional environment. Candidates for this role must demonstrate excellent communication skills, a strong clinical knowledge, and principles of management. The RN House Supervisor will also need basic computer and office equipment skills, a valid driver’s license, and must meet a minimum age requirement of 21 years.

Job Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university nursing program with a diploma/degree in nursing
  • Must possess current state licensure
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of clinical nursing and management principles
  • Basic computer skills
  • Minimum age of 21 years

Job Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university nursing program with a diploma/degree in nursing
  • Must possess current licensure in the state of employment
  • Two years nursing experience required
  • One year’s supervisory experience preferred
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills and possess a strong knowledge base of clinical nursing and basic principle/practices of management
  • Must have a basic working knowledge of computer and office equipment
  • Must be at least 21 years of age

Job Duties

  • Report directly to the Warden/Facility Administrator or Health Service Administrator for daily clinical operations within the medical department
  • Manage and supervise daily nursing/clinical activities
  • Supervise nursing and non-licensed health care providers in the performance of their duties and evaluate as prescribed by the facility and corporate policy
  • Provide direct patient care as indicated within scope of licensure
  • Provide for adequate staffing at the facility
  • fill in as needed during periods of short staffing
  • Perform triage and physical assessments
  • Perform and direct emergency care and procedures as needed and call the Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders
