Job Description

Valleywise Behavioral Health Center is a leading provider of inpatient behavioral health services based in Arizona, with facilities located in Mesa, Phoenix, and Maryvale. As one of the largest behavioral health care providers in the state, Valleywise specializes in serving both adolescent and adult populations. The organization is renowned for its commitment to delivering holistic, stigma-free care to patients experiencing a full array of psychiatric disorders. The center operates with a strong interdisciplinary approach, bringing together psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to foster a supportive, cooperative environment that benefits both patients and staff alike. As part of an academic medical center within the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance, Valleywise also places a high value on education and career development, offering numerous opportunities for professional growth. This includes supporting staff, students, and resident physicians in their ongoing educational journeys, enhancing the learning environment for all involved.

The role of the Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) at Valleywise Behavioral Health Center is pivotal in shaping the future of mental health care. Psychiatric RNs provide direct supervision to Mental Health Workers, Behavioral Health Technicians, and Health Unit Coordinators, as well as play a significant role in training future nurses. These nurses are strong patient advocates, ensuring that patients are treated with the utmost dignity and respect, and receive care within a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment. The position is especially rewarding as nurses witness measurable improvements in patients from admission through stabilization and into the outpatient continuum of care. The work environment benefits greatly from the structure and robust therapeutic programs that emphasize teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This particular opportunity is for a night shift Psychiatric RN at the Maryvale unit, working 36 hours per week. The pay rate ranges from $35.52 to $52.39 per hour, with an 18% night shift differential added to the base pay. The position requires working with culturally diverse populations and emphasizes excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills. It also requires proficiency in basic computer skills to navigate electronic medical records effectively. Valleywise Health System values nurses who are bilingual, though it is considered a preference rather than a requirement. The Psychiatric RN will contribute to the organization's mission of providing compassionate, respectful, and high-quality mental health care while supporting their own career advancement within a dynamic and supportive academic medical environment.
