The Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp role at SCA Health is a critical position focused on providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in the preoperative setting. This role requires the nurse to assess patients' preoperative conditions thoroughly, including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological systems, hemodynamic stability, pain management, and mental status. The RN PreOp develops and implements individualized perianesthesia care plans that ensure patient safety, protection, comfort, and effective communication throughout the preoperative continuum. This position also emphasizes adherence to safety protocols, such as the Universal Protocol and facility site validation, to uphold patient rights, dignity, and privacy. Additionally, the RN PreOp collaborates actively within multidisciplinary teams, participates in quality improvement projects, maintains competencies through continuous professional growth, and advocates for patients by maintaining confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies. Job Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • One year of ICU, ED, PACU, and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred
  • Current state licensure to practice in good standing
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current certification
  • Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course within 90 days or current certification
  • Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course if pediatric care is included within 90 days or current certification
  • Specialty certification in perioperative or perianesthesia nursing preferred

Job Duties

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA
  • Assess patient's preoperative status at intervals according to facility policies including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological systems, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort needs, and mental status
  • Interpret information accurately from various monitors
  • Develop individualized perianesthesia plan of care by implementing safety measures, protecting patient from injury, communicating patient status, ensuring safe operation of equipment, and advocating for patient safety
  • Administer medications safely and perform interventions to maintain wound integrity, tissue perfusion, normothermia, and infection protection
  • Provide education and involve patient or support person in perioperative plan of care decisions
  • Evaluate patient's progress, transfer care, provide hand-off report, and document episode of care accurately
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with perioperative team
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and performance appraisal process
  • Maintain professional competencies and pursue growth
  • Comply with SCA and facility policies
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training, and safety huddles
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
