Job Description

Mayo Clinic is a world-renowned nonprofit academic medical center known for its exceptional patient care, innovative research, and comprehensive educational programs. With multiple major campuses located in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, Jacksonville, Florida, and Rochester, Minnesota, as well as numerous facilities across Midwestern communities, Mayo Clinic offers a unique work environment that supports the professional growth and personal well-being of its employees. Recognized as a top-ranked healthcare provider across a wide range of specialties by U.S. News & World Report, Mayo Clinic places a strong emphasis on putting patients first while simultaneously investing in its staff with competitive compensation, extensive benefits, and opportunities for continuing education and career advancement.

The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Internal Travel Team at Mayo Clinic is a dynamic opportunity for experienced nurses to contribute their skills across multiple Mayo Clinic sites including Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. This full-time position requires nurses to rotate among these locations based on patient care needs, providing valuable contingency staffing support where it is most needed. Nurses in this role will be assigned to Progressive Care Units (PCU) or Medical/Surgical (Med/Surg) work units and are expected to maintain a flexible and adaptive approach to scheduling and assignment to meet the evolving demands of patient care.

RNs employed in the Internal Travel Team will complete orientation coursework such as Foundations of Critical Care Nursing (FCCN) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) if not already certified. Alternatively, PCCN certification may substitute for FCCN coursework. Responsibilities include coordination of nursing care, direct patient care, patient and family education, and management of care transitions. Practicing under the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, RNs are accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for their assigned patients, with guidance from the American Nurses Association's Scope and Standards of Practice. Additional responsibilities encompass leadership activities such as mentoring, precepting, quality improvement involvement, and delegation of patient care based on complexity, acuity, and resources.

This travel RN position offers a rewarding career by enabling nurses to broaden their clinical expertise across various specialties and geographic locations while embracing Mayo Clinic's core values and culture. The RN is expected to demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills and the ability to work cohesively within interdisciplinary teams. Flexibility to work variable hours encompassing days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call shifts is essential.

For new graduate nurses interested in starting their career at Mayo Clinic, dedicated Nurse Residency Programs provide structured support and placement guidance to ensure a strong foundation for future growth. Moreover, Mayo Clinic is committed to equal employment opportunities for all qualified applicants regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, or veteran status. The position offers competitive compensation, full-time benefits eligibility, and the chance to be part of a prestigious institution dedicated to excellence in healthcare.
