Continuing education and career advancement opportunities are abundantly available, allowing employees to build long, successful careers within the organization.

The role under discussion is for a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Internal Travel Team, a unique opportunity at Mayo Clinic that requires the nurse to rotate across various Mayo Clinic sites located in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. This travel nursing position caters specifically to patient care needs across different hospital emergency departments (ED), including among significant health systems like the Mayo Clinic Health System hospitals in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Internal Travel Team RNs are tasked with assessing, triaging, and treating patients of all ages who present at the hospital emergency rooms, a role that necessitates a strong commitment to patient safety, satisfaction, and collaborative teamwork with healthcare professionals across disciplines.

Given the varied settings—ranging from level I to level IV trauma centers—the responsibilities and work environment may differ based on patient demands, resource availability, and specific facility practices. The RN in this team is accountable for coordinating nursing care, encompassing direct patient care, patient and family education, and managing transitions of care. This role functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, upholding a high standard of nursing care planning, implementation, evaluation, and communication.

In addition to delivering clinical care, the RN on the Internal Travel Team engages in leadership activities, including mentoring new nurses, serving on committees, and participating in quality improvement projects. The position requires the nurse to adapt rapidly to different environments and schedules, providing contingency support whenever necessary across sites. Flexibility, adaptability, excellent communication skills, and critical thinking are essential attributes for success in this role. This is an excellent career path for nurses seeking diverse clinical challenges and opportunities to develop professionally while contributing to a premier healthcare institution.
