Job Description

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center is a leading healthcare provider located in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Renowned for its comprehensive medical services and commitment to patient care, the medical center serves as a cornerstone of health and wellness in the region. Specializing in a wide range of medical disciplines, Cape Fear Valley Medical Center operates with a focus on community health, advanced medical technology, and compassionate care. The facility is dedicated to fostering professional growth among its staff and maintaining the highest standards in medical treatment and patient safety. Operating as a major regional hospital, it offers a multifaceted work environment featuring numerous departments and specialized care units designed to meet diverse patient needs.

The role available within the 3 South Medical/Telemetry department is that of a Registered Nurse (RN) focused on providing excellent patient care within an adult unit that contains 36 beds and functions on a track schedule. The unit maintains a patient-to-nurse ratio of 5 to 1, ensuring adequate attention and quality care for each patient. This position is within the nursing job family and involves working collaboratively with a committed team consisting of Registered Nurses, Clinical Educators, Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretaries, Resource Nurses, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians, and Occupational and Speech Therapists.

The RN will be responsible for planning and implementing professional nursing care, assessing patient conditions to identify care needs, and organizing appropriate patient interventions in accordance with hospital policies. The role includes charge nurse responsibilities and involves maintaining rigorous documentation of patient care. Other duties include administering medications as prescribed, recognizing life-threatening situations, and responding promptly and appropriately. The RN will also establish collaborative interdisciplinary relationships with other health system staff and medical personnel to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care delivery.

This position requires a Registered Nurse with a minimum of an Associate's degree in nursing, though a Bachelor’s degree is preferred. The RN must hold current licensure in North Carolina or possess a compact state licensure. While new graduate nurses are welcome to apply, one to two years of related clinical experience is preferred. The candidate should be proficient in handling critical conditions such as pneumonia, congestive heart failure, renal failure, sepsis, stroke, seizures, and respiratory illnesses. Familiarity with CPAP, BIPAP, telemetry monitoring, tracheotomy care, and PCA pumps is essential.

In addition to clinical skills, this role demands effective communication, positive interpersonal skills, and strong organizational and leadership abilities. The RN should also understand the psychosocial, developmental, and spiritual needs of adult patients. Physical demands include considerable standing, walking, bending, and lifting, as well as the ability to manage exposure risks to infectious materials. Certification requirements include Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association and an active RN license from the Board of Nursing.

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center offers a supportive work environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion are valued. As an equal opportunity employer, it encourages candidates from all backgrounds to apply. The facility also emphasizes cost containment and active participation in quality monitoring to achieve the best patient outcomes.
