The Family Birth Center at Mayo Clinic’s Eisenberg Tower campus is a specialized care unit focused on labor and delivery. This area encompasses eleven birthing and recovery suites, three surgical delivery rooms, and a neonatal resuscitation room, carefully designed to support both patients and their families. The unit fosters a family-centered care philosophy where laboring women are supported by their chosen partners and even siblings, who may be prepared through educational programs to attend the birth experience.

This role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Family Birth Center, where the RN will coordinate comprehensive nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients as well as their newborns. The center operates within a couplet care model, allowing nurses to provide integrated mother and newborn care. The RN will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including obstetricians, family medicine physicians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, certified nurse midwives, neonatal nurse practitioners, lactation consultants, social workers, and other supportive personnel.

The RN role encompasses patient care coordination, educating patients and families about health management and transitions, and adhering to Mayo Clinic’s Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse assumes accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care to ensure the highest quality outcomes. Registered Nurses in this unit are also expected to demonstrate leadership qualities through roles such as precepting new staff, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and engaging in professional development activities.

Mayo Clinic also offers a Nurse Residency Program tailored to support new graduate nurses, helping them transition into clinical practice by aligning their interests with suitable work units. This program fosters the growth and development of novice RNs by providing mentorship, education, and career guidance.

The compensation for this Registered Nurse position ranges between $43.84 and $66.84 per hour, reflecting a compensation structure that rewards experience, education, and commitment. The Family Birth Center requires availability for 12-hour shifts covering days and nights, including weekends on a rotating schedule. This role also requires excellent communication skills, adaptability to dynamic clinical situations, and proficiency with electronic medical record systems. Licensure requirements include a valid Registered Nurse license for the applicable state and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. The position is eligible for Tennessee sponsorship, although international assignments are not part of the role.
